Transmission oil??

Gonna replace all the oils and coolant before I start riding the dt properly but I need to ask for some advice regardin transmission oil.. In the manual it says I need sae1030 oil but after reading old transmission posts the only ones I can see recommended is 10-40 oil, silkolene?? Can you use 1040 or should I stick to 1030 and if so what are the good 30s to use?? Cheers

30 will be lighter when its warmed up and 40 will take more to warm it up to make it lighter, I use 30 in the winter and 40 in the summer. as for good oils Silkolene is just fine

Thanks people for commenting, just to make sure theres no harm in using 10-40, it just takes longer to warm up right?? :) if so im probably gonna go with the silkolene like you said satelliteone as i was looking at that before :)

you want the smallest number and the highest numbers

eg 5w50 is what i have

it has the wider range of lubrication at high and low temps

I don't bother with oil, it's just one of those things people recommend for no valid reason.. Same with air filters pfffft

Castrol Magnatec is a 4 stroke engine oil, its not a gearbox oil, think of it this way, Paul buys a 4 stroke bike and drains the oil from the gearbox and the motor, he then gets some two stroke oil and fills both the gearbox and the motor with it and just for good luck adds a shot of baby oil, there is a reason that they make seperate motor and gearbox oils, motor oils contain bigger molecules than gearbox oil, the molecules in synthetic engine oil get smashed to bits in a gearbox rendering it a complete waste of money and whatsmore pretty useless.
