Hey, Im from norway so please excuse my english if its bad,
I bough a 170cc cyllinder kit from athena just before the winter set in this year, But i cant get it to run cleanly, Im so upset, since i was expecting a big change, But actually, Its slower than it used to, This is my set up
Athena 170cc, Mikuni tm 34mm 250 jet( started out with 310 as people told me, But had to go down and down and down and down, And still on 250 jet its not running cleanly,) i have opened the air filtre box, So that it gets more air, And im using a gianelli performance exhaust, Now, My top speed is 120 kmh, wich is about 65-70 mph i think, And this sucks, Cause with just the performance exhaust it can do alot better.
At 120 km/h it almost feels the same way as when you have 130 km/h with everything original, The engine just wouldnt rev any higher.
So please, Please,Please,Please, If you have a 170cc athena cyllinder, And you made it run clean, Please tell me how, And do i need a Athena performance exhaust to make it perform any good, Or does the gianelli performance exhaust let out enough exhaust for the engine ?,
Would a Dep exhaust do any better ?,
My acceleration is at best the same as original, I cant do wheelies because its not running clean, (Too much fuel ) And my top speed is rubbish.
Please help,
Im not on this forum alot, So i will be overjoyed if you answear me on email too, not just here, My email i gorannessan@hotmail.com
DOnt know what a plug chop is, But if it means checking the spark plug color i have, Its dark brown-black, Too much fuel, So its "Coffing" right before the kick comes in,
Yes the front wheel goes up, But just out of pure Torque, Bechus its coffing/ running unclean it goes down again right before the kick starts,
The power valve is at full opening i think, I had my dad to help while setting it up, And i was putting on the exhaust while he adjusted them, He told me he done them right.
Have original reeds,
Ive done 350 kilometers, Dont know what thats in miles, Im supposed to do 500 before reving it high, And thats no problem, Bechus the engine wont rev high,
I have a friend who has a dep exhaust, Maybe il borrow hes and test it out a day when the snow and ice is off the roads.
i have the athena 170cc big bore kit fitted, running the standard upjetted carb and a full dep exhaust,it runs sweet,i have a bigger front sprocket to compensate the fact it would wheelie all the time, soooo much more torque than standard, not much diff in top end
Thanks monfooldrop, What jet are you using ?, And have you done any modifications to give the engine more air?, Ill try what you said later.
And with the original front sprocket it wheelied easily ?, In what gears ?, Cuz with the standard cyllinder and gianelli exhaust mine wheelied in 1-2-3 gear.
i have only took the snorkel off the airbox,i cant remember offhand the jet size,it would wheelie or spin when pulling away quick which aint good with knobblies on,i now have a 18 tooth cog on and its more controllable
This guy i have been talking to from norway with this setup : Athena 170 cc, Dep exhaust, Standard carb with 290 jet claims he cant do any more than 65-70 mph, 120 km/h. Wich is the same as i, Anyone know what may be causing this ?
Well, this other guy here wrote that his dt is doing fine with 28 mm carb with bigger jets, and dep exhaust,
I have this set : Gianelli exhaust, 34mm carb 250 jet, Open air filtre box to give it more air.
Still mine doesent do more than 120 km/h, wich i think is like 70 mph.
This is much slower than with only gianelli exhaust and bigger jets on the standard cyllinder, With that setup i did 140 kmh, Wich i think is about 90-100 mph
Mine isnt running clean right before the kick starts in, it gets too much fuel, Do you guys think that may affect my top speed ?, Doesent seem like its running unsmoothly at 120 kmh, It just doesent want any more rpm
to much fuel will make the spark plug wet and have a weak spark, try using an ngk BR8EIX, also the dt200r has the tm28ss carb same as the dt125r but with different jetting, you might want to copy the jetting for the pilot jet,
I am using a ngk brp 10 i think, 9 or 10, Once on my standard cyllinder i sieced the cyllinder right after switching to a brp 8, So i want to be safe and use a 10 plug,
My plug isnt wet, But its almost black, Would i have to replace everything in the carb ?, isnt it enough to just change the main jet, and maybe the idle jet ?,
Ok, But what do you think about my theory about the 34 mm being to big, and therefore giving the engine too much of both air and fuel, and thats the reason why it wont do high rpm ?
Dont think it is, Then it wouldnt be like this i think, It would be more like almost out of fuel, You know how weird the engine gets right before its out of fuel xD
What would those sizes be at todays size numbers ?, i dont have any more pilot jets, other than the one that is in the 34mm carb, But i have alot of main jets
