Front Sprocket Removal

So i have finally got round to starting my engine rebuild but i'm stuck already, lol, I can't get the front sprocket off! The engine is on my front room floor so i don't have the option of putting the back brake on (live n learn!), so I've got a big pair of grips to hold the sprocket and a breaker bar, but its not budging. I tried adding some heat but it didn't help.

Does anyone know of a better way to go about this??

If you're stripping the engine to rebuild it then take the head and barrel off and put a block of wood either side of the piston (between the piston and the crankcase) and tape round the whole thing to keep the blocks in place. Now put it in gear so when you turn the sprocket the piston comes down and wedges on the blocks.
BTW they are a b*stard to get off in the frame sometimes so you'll need plenty of brute force and ignorance
Good luck.

I will take it to the garage as a last resort Toy, but that would mean admitting defeat! lol

Thanks gary, i used that method to get the primary gear off, but was dubious about doing it for the sprocket as i was worried it would snap the conrod. But i will give it a go later..

I'm also having problems getting the clutch center nut undone, i made a clutch holding tool like in the manual but the only metal i had available was i tad thin, and im struggling to keep a grip on it. Anyone know of another method?

the only way to get it off m8 is to use an impact gun like toyman said iv even had trouble getting them off whilst the engine is in the frame and using the back brake, impact all the way m8

How much did it set you back?

BTW is a Impact gun just a windy gun? Pnumatic guns used it mechanical garages? If so do you get a setup with the generator thing or already own one?

Here it is:

It's only a cheapish one off ebay, but all the feedback was good. It feels nice and solid too. I wish i'd got one years ago now, would have save me so much time and effort.

Thats a decent price is that, two batteries too, I think I paid about £75 couple of years back for a second hand one, with only one battery.
