Cant really explain what its called but its located close to the fuses on the right hand side of the RE (might not apply to dtr's but see pic below) lol
anyway when i was trying to get my bike to start the other day with my mate (knows a bit about bikes) he noticed this block with 2 pipes coming out of the bottom from it and he told me it was the c02 emmisions cleaner and that blocking the pipes (one goes to the airbox and the other i cant remember lol) would increase throttle response and maybe power and would not affect the bike negativly by doing so (Something about jus soley air going back into the airbox)....
So i let him do it and after finding why it wasnt starting we started it up and it definatly seemed to have more power even when riding it
I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of doing this before or actually done it before themselves, or if you know it would affect the bike negativley in any way??
This could be jus from replacing the spark plug at the time, but it did seem so much better and cant imagine the spark plug improving it that well??
Any info would be great and if you think it could damage my bike atall let me know and ill put it back :)
anyone??? if you need more info please ask, wanna make sure its alrite to shut off those pipes amd if it actually does amything?? if not does anyone know if the dtrs have that co2 emmisions block??
Thats where the tube from the stock exhaust goes right ? And then the pipe coming out of it again is going to the airbox, Therefore giving ehxuast back to into the engine.
I dont think the older ones has this, But i know my dt 125 re 04 mod had. Fitted a Gianelli instead ;)
As far as im aware its just to keep emissions down by recycling exhaust gases, and acts as a restriction by lowering the pressure in the expansion chamber. Removing it shouldn't have a negative impact on your bike, just block the holes on your exhaust and airbox.
I could be misinformed, so feel free to correct me if im wrong ;)
Basically it's a reed switch, only lets unused gases flow from the exhaust back to the airbox, You can either; leave it standard and put the pipe back on from the exhaust, swap the exhaust for a DEP or BIG ONE, or what I recommend.. Cut open the expansion and take out the cat converter, and while your working on the pipe, cut the other little sticky out bit off and weld over the hole, and then block the rubber pipe that goes back to the airbox Doing that aswell as doing the earth-wire de-restriction will make it fly!
Gincat are you saying that its not a good idea to do this if the xpanny hasnt been touched with??
I would deffo put on a better exhaust if i had the funds too and thanks for reccomending removing the restrictors within the exhaust, tho dont really fancy buying a welder and giving it a go myself with no experience, but i may look into someone doing it for me :)
At the minute the pipe which comes from the exhaust has not been blocked atall (tho not in the cleaner) but the pipe leading from the emmisions cleaner is blocked at the end which would connect into the emmsions cleaner; Can you see any harm in leaving it like this, if so do you reccomend putting it back or doing what fused said and just block the holes on the exhaust and airbox??
Much appreciated if you could reply again :)
Edit - didnt see ya post bradders, so leave it like it is now where jus the pipe going from the air box is blocked yeah and leave the exhaust pipe open but not in the cleaner/reed switch
, or put the exhaust pipe back into the cleaner but not the airbox one?? lol :)

Why not take it to local colledge? They will get trainees to weld it up for you. If it goes wrong remember there are pro staff there to assist them and fix the issues they may face.
Know a few people who get things fixed free in colledge. Just give a donation once you pick up, Although it is not needed.
When i drove with my stock pipe i just plugged the hole in the stock pipe where that tube to the co2 thingy should be. Dont know if it made any noticable difference. But it should be better for the engine to get clean air than to get air mixed with co2 right xD,
But the best thing and the easiest thing is just to swap into a gianelli exhaust, wich in my opinion is better than the dep ;) never tried big one but i read its a stock replacement exhaust ?
North east: I would mate but the nearest college which does mechanics is miles away and dont know anyone which goes there but thanks for the idea, ill still look into it tho, cheers
Nordt and bradders, cheers for also getting back to me, ill plug as close to the exhaust then when i next have a chance :)
When I did mine I got it done at college for free! Wasn't even doing a welding course haha Took it in, explained where restrictions were and asked if they'd mind taking them out 1 hour later the cat was removed and the little nobbly bit was grinded off and welded over Took it home and sprayed it and then put it on the bike and it stayed there until I sold it
I've only ever had it as fully stock with the pipe attached and it all fully removed so I couldn't really say if it would be better attached or not to be honest, I don't think it would make all that difference as it still has the cat in and that practically bungs up the exhaust fully lol
haha nice one mate, ill deffo look into it then :)
ah ok mate, no worries, what about jus leaving the pipe from the xpanny open but not connected to the c02 cleaner thingy to save it bunging up the exhaust?? lol
