I seem to have acceleration issues, me and my uncle have dtr's and his acceleration is so much better than mine! but we have the same top end about 80-85mph, my speedos de-restricted standard chain and sprockets on both of our bikes, what would be restricting my acceleration?any ideas?!

Exhaust most likely, What's the years of yours and your uncles bikes? I think the years 01-03 (looks like yours from the picture) didn't seem to de-restrict well, well not on my 03 it didn't I did the speedo mod thing to mine and it seemed to do nothing but that was with the standard exhaust which I never changed! I've had a 04 (electric start model) and the earth to ground wire mod made it fly, the top end was around the same just made it accelerate like chuff, I then later removed the CAT and that didn't do as much as the wire mod, just smoothed it out and didn't seem to smog up as much

Okay, thanks guys, my uncles is the X model (2000) and his speedo reed is de restricted,and he has a standard exhaust, mine is a 2002 model, have a BIG ONE end can, and standard front pipe, which i think needs to be de restricted! and my speedo reed has also been de restricted,but have same top end, which is nice. but his acceleration is in a league of his own!

Smaller wheels in theory means quicker acceleration.. You sure it's a 2000 model that's been made to X by swaping over parts or could it be the DTRX 04 onwards.. If it's the 04 onwards then that would explain why it's quicker off the mark as all you have to do is earth one wire and BOOM! You have full power!!
Yeah 100% sure, looks exactly the same as mine lol just with road tyres on, which i havnt got, only difference is , my exhaust and thats it really, i have a boyesen power reed, which i heard you need to replace every 10,000 miles, mines done 7,000 miles over nearly! would that be another possible reason for acceleration issues?

Never touched the reeds on any of my DTR's, never needed to go that far lol Just do the basic de-restriction methods and that was it Next time you see his bike look closely at his exhaust, if it looks like it's been cut open and re-welded at the largest part then his could be gutted and yours standard
Or ask if he'd mind swapping exhausts just to see if you notice a difference in power? Then if you do you know you need to gut your exhaust
Yeah,Im pretty sure mine is standard, altho ive in my BIG ONE exhaust end can, the wodding is burnt out, i have less in there than i used to, I have some Polini Wodding, but it sounds too quiet with it in, I want it to sound loud, but nice, and it's not possible!

Hmmm most aftermarket reed valves only last a few 1000 miles best to stay clear
When did you last do the topend as could be low on compression
Top end bearing was replaced at about 8,000 miles, has now done almost 17,000. it starts and ticks over perfect, on 1,500RPM, so guessing the compression is fine, as it maybe would have trouble starting, it kicks over first time, which is great for a 10 year old bike, and do you know when I'd need to replace piston rings etc etc?

Now buy the sounds of it m8 best thing to do is a compression test should be about 120psi plus cold but to be honest would be surprised if you get 100psi it will run on 80psi but wouldnt be good on performance
