Wee update, not really done much since getting it powder coated.
Tackled the seat, marking it up and cutting it. Got some fabric off ebay but it was no good as it didn't stretch at all so wouldn't fit. GOing to go to an actual fabric shop and see what I can get.
Mock fitted the side panels again, just to see how they were looking.
Got a complete new set of bolts for the build...
Polisport rear light fitted...
Got the gold renthals as part of the original black and gold colour scheme I was going for. Thought it was a waste to sell them so am going to see if the powder coaters can do them orange for me. Might have to sand them down after to get bits to fit but nothing ventured...
Tthe rst of the bits for powdercoating getting cleaned up in my massive workshop (or the world's smallest shed). The missus hasn't noticed but the plastics have been run thru the dushwasher a few times now to clean them up...
So that's were I'm at now, depending on funds will hopefully get the rest of the bits powder coated. Just got the last few bits I need for the engine rebuild so that's on the to do list too. Anyone got any tips before I start for some easy upgrades to the engine?
Few more pictures, had a problem with the radiator/oil tank brackets because of rounded off bolts on both top mounts. Ended up drilling right thru them both. Finally got the right bolt - a m6 x 80 mm to go right thru the top bracket holes, you wouldn't notice the difference.
Minor update whilst I wait for bits coming back from powder coating. Been busy with my orange paint. Ordered some frame protection tape to use around the swing arm to try to preserve the paint work.
Took a bit of a gamble on Ebay and managed to get these....
They are unbranded 17 x 2.5 and 17 x 3 wheels with good tyres on with plenty of tread. Came with hubs, sprocket, disks and spindles. All for 75 squid plus postage. I'll dismantle the wheels, get the rims powdercoated and shiny then rebuild on to my hubs. With luck the spokes will be re-useable but might need to get new ones.
Think they're off some cheapy bike, they say something like 'skyteam' on them. I'm not bothered tho once they've been powdercoatedt they should look pretty good.
my mates brother jumped over a hump in som grass lanmded hard ant the front wheel crumpled on his lol cheap chineese tat, if ur rebuilding them use ss spokes for abit of strenth
Coming along real nice Slinky, that front wavy disc looks like it has the 3x2 hole pattern same as the DT but would it fit on the DT hub, have you an old DT wheel knocking about?is there any chance you could measure the I.D of the disc see whether it would fit, if it did, it would sort out my problem with keeping the Brembo on without changing back to the single pot caliper all the time, when fitting Enduro wheels back onto mine.
Not got the front wheel anymore as some bar steward stole them. Am away for the weekend but will measure the disk when I get back. If it's it any use to you it's yours.
Cheers for the comments. Learned the hard way from working on my mini, that it's better to spend a bit extra first time and get it right. This second lot of powdercoating cost 60 squid, again pretty reasonable. Took inspiration from a lot of bikes on here already, so many good ideas and mods.
This is awesome, but theres a couple parts that are going to cause you issues man. I'll warn you from now.
The chain slider will ruin your chain when the paint flakes off, spreading orange flakes all through it and the swing arm. It's annoying the original colour but nothing can be done about it. It will also be a nightmare to keep clean, and once it flakes it will look worse than if you left it alone.
Same things with the shells as soon as you tighten them, the paint will just rip off. Ended up having to sand the paint off. I was advised about doing my callipers so interested to see if yours still function ok, will do mine if they do.
Remember parts get blasted so you don't really need to sand them.
