Got them for £41 second chance offer - they're about the fourth set I got - spent a bloody fortune on them all!

Sorry everyone - been away from here for too long. A new job and my wedding have distracted me recently and now the flat is up for sale so had do de-clutter the flat and move the bike and bits to my mum and dad's basement.

Whilst i've been away i've not completely forsaken the bike, so here's a big update on where I'm at now.

First of all, parts that i've bought for the project include:-

Polisport Enduro Headlight

Polisport Supermoto Front Fender

Silicone Hoses

Rear Indicators

UFO YZ250 Fork Guards

Wheel Bearings, Steering Bearings and Fork Seal Kit

Conrod Kit

Locking Petrol Cap

and arriving shortly, new crank, crank bearings and full gasket set.

Parts that have been refurbished include:-

Oil Tank

Rear Caliper Guard

Rear Brake Reservoir

Air Filter (new filter, lick of paint and snorkel removed).

I started work on the engine.  Completely stripped the current engine, everything seemed ok except the crank which had water damage so new one on it's way.  Had the barrel cross bored +1.00mm and got the correct piston.  Engine is going to be painted black so made a start on that.  Just awaiting a few parts before putting it all back together again.

Whilst I was getting the barrel bored I challenged my motor engineer to recreate the profile of a standard DT125 yolk onto the yolk for the YZ250 USD forks.  The result is brilliant.  Hopefully the pictures do it justice.  It means no shims or spacers (so far - not put them all together).  Hopefully it will be a tidy solution and another alternative to the options already on here.

You can't quite see it here but basically the two thread lines line up.

So that's me for now, now in my wee basement, still working away.....

Will hopefully be able to update more often now.

Another wee update while I have a chance.  Still working away on the bike, getting there slowly but surely.  Have been priming and painting the engine cases.

Wasn't happy with the crank I had so got a new(er) one.  Have dropped it off to the auto engineers I use to fit a new conrod and balance it. (top pic old crank, bottom pic new crank)

Got a complete gasket set, new crank bearings, new conrod.  Crank bearings are currently in my freezer waiting for fitting (engine cases will go in the oven).

So that's pretty much all the bits ready for the engine rebuild.  Waiting to pick up the crank then will get stuck in.

I started looking at my forks again and may have run into a problem.  I have two different sets and they are from two different years of bikes.  Will need to check which one to use before getting them powder coated or painted.  Once I figure out which one to use i'll be looking to sell the other set so let me know if anyone is interested and i'll give forum members first chance before they go on ebay.

Got a potential bargain on Ebay the other day. Dep rear and a stainless steel front exhaust pipe.  Look in good nick - not bad for £65 posted!!  Just waiting to see if they turn up and it's not one of those 'too good to be true' kind of deals. Nothing ventured, nothing gained tho.

Looking for a DEP end cap if anyone has one lying around...

Feeling the pressure from my fellow forum members to ditch the chinese wheels and get someexcel rims.  I reckon wheels will be the last part of the build so if funds allow i'll send the hubs off and get some supermoto excel wheel built up.

Off on a course for 3 weeks so probably won't get much done unless I get some time at weekends.

First attempt at designing my graphics - i've got some sticky black vinyl coming and have my orange yamaha decals ready to go.  Looking for a subtle look, most importantly that covers the wee dent in the tank.  Managed to steal some photos of a white dtr (apologies if it belongs to anyone here).  Not to sure about this first attempt, will try a few more designs.

Is this what you are looking for? You can have it if you want. It is totally trashed, the whole inside is smashed up. Then peice should polish up nicely though.

Yup, just the end piece to make mine look a bit tidier. Got them thru in the post today and they're both in good nick, a wee dent in the back box but other than that they'll do for now.

Can anyone explain the benefits of changing the DEP back box into a 'stubby' - any performance gains or does it just look better?

Looks and sounds better in my opinion, obviously others may say different, but works for me.

Few more little bits to get but mostly there for the rebuild. Big jobs will be wiring loom and deciding what I'm doing with the wheels.

Chipped the paint on the shock a bit so had to use touch up paint. Did my best but couldn't.avoid chipping it. Hopefully won't notice it. Will get another one sorted if it bothers me that much. Try wrapping the shock and get a professional to do it!

i suppose it pretty hidden tho. so anything you have to touch up wont really get noticed. its just a nice touch colour coding ya spring, not many people do it :). il just have to be careful. trying to keep cost down for more bits :) so im trying to do it all myself hopefully

It's a slippery slope keeping costs down as I am relizing, starting to just push the boat out on parts. At the end of the day there are far worse things to spend your hard earned on!

It is worth putting the extra money in now and getting it all done as best you can than sit with a bike you're only half happy with.
