Yet another update, for the sake of updating. Away ona course just now so still waiting to pick up my crank for the engine rebuild. In the meantime, trying to work out the arrangement for the forks and gonna work on my exhaust.
Looks like i'm gonna need a spacer or two for the forks and bar risers, so they're on the next shopping list.
Started playing about with the forks. They've been lightly sprayed, just to see how they look with the white tops and, ultimately, the black fork guards.
Took some shots of the tank where it is slightly dented to try and work out decal design (aka cover up).
These are the spare set of forks I have that i'm eventually gonna sell, but need to work out what year they're from so any help would be appreciated.
Don't know if the markings mean anything to anyone. The gap between the two centres of the caliper mountings is 7.8cm and the spindle hole diameter is 2cm.
Found the thread on here about heat proof DEP stickers and after a quick email I got one through the post free of charge from the nice people at DEP. (Sorry the pitures on it's side)
Bit of a dent in the side of the exhaust - any tips on getting it out? Don't think it will be too bad if it stays in as the side panel should cover it up. Gonna work on stubbying the DEP and polishing it up, again after reading the guides on here.
That's all for now folks. Hopefully next week i'll be further on with stubbying the DEP and getting the engine rebuilt.
Yup, just trying to figure out what year of YZ250 they're off. They are identical (as far as I can see) to my other ones except for a different caliper mounting bracket, so must be off a different year than the 98-01 ones I have if that makes sense. If you want them as they are and then figure out later what year they are off (so you know what caliper etc to get), let me know. I suppose you could just make a mounting adaptor and use the dt caliper then figure out the spindle etc.
Marking up before cutting. Nev suggested around 4 inches, I work in cm so went for 10....
All marked up ready to cut with the hand saw....
Ta da....
Decided I would replace the wadding/baffle while I was there so went about cutting it out....
Old wadding close up.
Internal pipe removed and cut down to suit stubby size.
Old end piece taken off....
All wadding now removed, new wadding ordered and will hopefully be here next week.
Donor pipe courtesy of Slob (many thanks). Looks good in the picture but will only be using the end piece to finish mine.
On the inside it's a different story - totally goosed!
That's all I managed to get donw this weekend, will be back at it next weekend. Forgot to say, got another cylinder head through, looks in better nick than mine so will try and get that painted next week.
You dont hang about lol. Dont think anythhing has come of my bike that isn't totally goosed lol. Good to see what it was like inside. Some amount of crap was falling out it!
Another wee update as i'm back home for the weekend now.
Making up templates to try some designs for the tank etc.
Fitted the forks at the right height and now realise I need bar risers, so adding them to the shopping list.
Got this free from a guy at work, thought it might fit the USDs. Turns out the carrier lines up with my spare set but it looks like the caliper is too big and from the other side of some other fork.
Hopefully will get a fair bit done this weekend. Bloody machining shop isn't open at the weekend so still can't pick up my crank for another week so the engine build is still on hold.
For that part have a look at what I done to my usd's.
I machined up a spacer to take the taper bearings.
It's called yamaha wr250f usd conversion using an extension.
If you haven't already.
Yup seen your thread, retrospectively I wish I had done this but having spent over £90 getting the stem machined, i'm stuck with the way i've done it. I think yours looks a lot neater so if it's p*ssing me off in the future i'll go for a rip off our design. Will see how it rides. If anyone else is reading this, i'd recommend Calum's way of doing it over mine.
In the middle of moving house so my bike is all over the shop. Managed to get the exhaust almost finished, got new wadding and got the end bit off Slob's donated pipe.
Picked up a bargain in the January sales - job lot.
Complete engine, pistons, 3 barrels, 1 head, seat and wheel for a bargain price. Gonna rebuild the engine and keep it as a spare and use the wheel on my dt until I can afford some decent supermoto rims.
Looking good, great buy with the engines . How do you remove the rear caliper from the spacer I am totally stumped as to how to get it off, I see you managed to seperate yours.
You got the email for dep : ) mate give them a little email me self see if they can send a sticker my way : ) also what did you use to polish your pipe up, I intend on doing mine as soon as I get it from Harry : )

Think mine just came like that - bought it separately

Hi,
Can you tell me where I can get a replacement DEP sticker for my DEP rear exhaust off my DT125R? In particular a proper heat resistant sticker?
Been away for a while moving house and stuff but finally managed to convince the wife that having a motorbike in the house was a good idea so I'm back to almost full steam ahead trying to get the bike finished. In the interim period I've just about finished rebuilding the engine. New bearings, piston, ring, gaskets and seals all round.
Got some heat shield stuff through and fitted it to the side panel.
Bike got moved into the bedroom first.....
... then into the livingroom. Plans are afoot to build a 'man shed' but until that's done will have to survive in the house until the wife kills me.
Stripping the carb for a tidy up and paint job.
I've set about preparing the last few parts I need powdercoated. Will hopefully drop them off this week and get them soon. Front tyre was a bugger to get off - didn't want to damage the rim so ended up cutting it off. Rear spokes got the bolt cutter treatment.
Will get the forks powdercoated white, while i'm there along with the yolks. I've managed to put the yolks on the forks without damaging the paint in a trial run so am fairly confident it can be done again.
I've decided until I can do the bike justice and afford some proper decent supermoto wheels I'll stick with the standard DT rear wheel and standard YZ250 front wheel. Plan is to get the rims pwdercoated gloss black to go with the orange hubs and get new spokes for them both.
Looking amazing, If I built a bike indoors I would be kicked out the place after a day!
How did you get those bearings in I ended up taking mines to two wheels. Hopefully you won't expeirience the problems I have had, I am pritty sure you wont' though cause you have a thing called patience lol, I rushed into my engine to much and that's why it has an airleak.
+1 on the man shed that is my plan to, going to hold out though and get something good that I can have a work bench ect, not just somewhere to store the bike.
I left the bearings in the freezer for a few weeks while I was moving house and they slotted right in - didn't even need to put the crankcases in the oven.
