just fitted a new piston and its been fine for the last 30 odd miles but today i have a loud tapping from the top end its not a dull tapping either and it get faster the more its reved up any ideas ??????

Is the piston fitted right way round? did you do an over size re-bore? is the piston catching on power valve?, did you also re-bore the head gasket, for an oversize re-bore?

had a rebore with new piston 200 miles later it blew up piston chipped so there was no need for a rebore so just re fitted a new piston it was fine to start only just started doin it today

could be the gudgeon pin  has come loose and is scraping the bore

are you shure there was no bits left in the bottom end

like nev said check all the top end

if its only just started making the noise id suspect a circlips come out and pins floating catching on the ports

either way mate its top end off again lol disbelief

check the small end bearing aswell while your at it

ha ha shurup moanin its only half hour job to whip top end off

smilelol

it deffo needs doing tho, get a tortch and have a good look in crank cases and in the exhaust, pressure waves can suck debris back in of out the chamber when running

put the piston in the bare barrel when its off and use some feeler guages down the side of the piston to check clearances  to manual spec

may be that the piston is to small now its run and worn in as when u had your rebore he will of bored it to suit the piston he supplied

not every one is the same size miowd china smile
