Stick your fingers into the top of the radiator. Should be black oil sticky, slimey oil on the inside. To be fair mate it's your non genuine head gasket. There's a reason why we say don't use em. Just get one they're only about a Tenner. It'll be worth while skimming the head and cylinder. Not a hard job can be done with things around the home. Sheet of glass and fine wet and dry.

That's what it sounds like mate. Plus 7-8 mins tick over is a long time to just let it tick over.

yeah if its ticking over higher it will heat up faster, but reading the posts it leads twards head gasket, did u torque the hed nuts correct setting on rebuild then re check after a cupla runs??

they run at high pressures the coolant systems and if its got a small rout to take it will specially if its boiling it off aswell like cal was sayin, id strip top end, flat both surfacaces and put a yam gasket in, then if thats sorts it ur sorted

once or if the hg goes a few times heds warped and will never seal, crack on wi it and let us now how u get on smile

Did torque the hed nuts to correct setting on rebuild. But I did fail to check after a couple of runs hmm

New head gasket arrived today so I`ve put it on and my overheating problem is looking like it may now be resolved. I am going to check the nuts on the top end after a couple more runs & see if they still remain at the correct torque. So I hope that should be it now as far as this problem is concerned. Again thanks to all for your advice as they say a problem shared is a problem halfed. I hope I`m able to do this for one of you in return at some point

Yeah NORFE gave the head a good rub down & used a straight edge with a feela gauge. Positioned the straight edge in several different parallel places with head and both diagnals and tested in several places with the feeler gauge It all looked fine smile
