Nice new bits an a fresh top end rebuild on pause now

i had good day of the postie loadsa new shiney bits. thought my other bike deserves an overhaul so

got a fresh rebore i had done a while back sitting about. went to start stripping it all down

undid the rad connection cap on the head ( which doesnt even look like the right one)an theres no little gold thing inside there. could that be a reason for the piston failing a while back before it was run in.

Norfe might remember me asking a while ago about bits may have been in my zuast could have gone back up in to the cylinder.

also looking at it after buying all new bits i dunno if i should reuse this head or not it looks like terminators gone to war in there.

all the cylinder walls though not a mark to be seen.   could that piece missing in the head have caused this do ya rekon

nowt rong with that head lol, iv raced motocross bikes with heads worse than that

the performance drop would be so small us everyday riders wunt even notice

and yes theres some thing been in there, could of been sumets from out the cases or exhaust, only takes a small piece of ring or piston  and about a few second to do that much damage

get it wacked back together biggrin

hahaah really norfe ya not dikin with me are ya lol. ya probably right i have got another 3mb head slightly like this thats been runnin ages on the black bike with no problems.
i dont wana pull that apart tho as its a good running top end an piston with no leaks its going as a backup lump. or backup backpack lump should i say if i go on a long cruise.
its the damage in picture six was my main concern m8 right on the combutsion chambers rim. with it going on the offroader not having clocks, theres a chance i wouldnt know its leaking till it to late.

ya dont think it missing that gold lump with the spring in the coolant systen on the head was anything to do with it then .
im pretty sure there was a chunk of something in in my zaust bak then i remember a rattle doin my head in an even sayin to the mrs i think i might have a bit of an old piston shard in my exhaust before i went out on it (div head) . the piston damage was all on the crown aswell 940km covered.
see if i can get it right this time
i generally have better luck with 2nd hand pre run in stuff lol

no not messing mate

missing ? thermostat u mean?

runns better with one in

it only opens when the engine is at operating temp, thus helping the engine heat proply and not cause no damage such at cold seizures or similar problems

why people remove them is beyond me ha ha

got a couple if you want one tenner posted...smile
