Anybody tried or using a 17 tooth front sprocket? If so had it dropped the revs much?

If you drive with a 17th front sprocket, If we say you drive in 60 mph with the 16, you can drive about 65 mph with the same rpm with the 17th sprocket. Aprox.

All depends on, whether your engine can pull it, whats your setup and what rear sprocket you got.

So say if your engine is on it's way out or low compression they you may struggle. If you've got a DEP system or similar you may find that you have gained the extra torque necessary to pull that sort of load. And if you've got a stupidly large/small rear sprocket you may get a different speed.

I tried a 17, no real difference tbh
Risk it for a biscuit though, they're only what? £5 at most?

Right, I got a very tired '94 DTR with gutted front pipe and DEP tail pipe. When the the PV was pinned open it had 16/57 sprockets and was a pain in the arse to ride - first gear was a waste of time. So, I chucked a 17 on the front and this made first gear a little longer and so it was easier to ride. At that time I was just riding off road so not much over 30-40 mph and defo not in top 2 gears.
Since then I've been riding on the road a bit and noticed it struggles in the higher gears if the revs drop below 7g. I fitted a servo to the PV which helped with the power delivery but it still struggles in the higher gears. I am assuming at the moment it's more to do with the engine than the gearing - I plan to do a top end rebuild and rebore at some point, hopefully that'll sort it.
I ride mainly on green lanes and only really ride on the roads between lanes so it's not too much of a problem.
Like Gincat said, a sprockets only a fiver so buy a couple of different ones and try them out.

Aye mate was fun for a while but gets boring, prefer stock gearing, still have my red sprockets and chain just for spares.
