Thanks for that...

Is the water in the expansion bottle all oily?

Have you done a rebuild recently? Did you use a genuine yammy gasket? Did you make sure that no gasket was left on either the head or the cylinder?

If you haven't done a rebuild. Is the temperature sensor working? Is the temperature going into the red?

Is the radiator blocked? Whats the water like coming out? Is the water pump working?

Mate don't assume. If the water pump isn't working OR the cooling system is at fault, these things could cause the water to boil!

If it's bubbling in the expansion bottle means it's pressurising it, definitely HG.

NO! You're making an assumption. OK so the most likely cause IS the Head gasket. But based on the what he had given me. Could be various.

He could have a crack in the cylinder causing the water to vapourise.

The water pump could be nakered causing water to stay put, boil and vapourise.

The cooling system could be blocked, not letting cold water replace the hot water fast enough, causing the water to boil and vapourise.

Don't put it in the 'I don't know what's wrong' section if its not up for debate. Or you don't want help.

 Like I said, not necessarily.

Head was warped on my DT. Water was leaking through the gasket and my DT started up no problems.

Just buy genuine. No point taking risks. If you're sure its the Head gasket.

It's not a lot. £12. Done.

WTF? The point in these forums is to try and save you some money! By helping you help yourself. It's always worth skimming the head anyway to remove any left over gasket. It's like a 5 minute job the way I do it. That's no exaggeration. When everything is prepared it's literally moving the head in circles then the same with the cylinder. You can visually check to see if the cylinder was cracked. You could test to see if it was the water pump. You could have flushed the coolant to make sure there were no blockages. Very simple things to check to diagnose the problem. But if you're happy sending it away then that's different matter entirely.
