Bloody 'ell Coastie lad, bit of a bad day eh? On a good note, went and gave my mate down the road a hand sorting out his new discs and pads for his Saab, he's got some new coils for your Vectra, gratis! as last car he had, was the same Vectra as yours, so no need for them now. so you up tomorrow now then?
Aye should be, as for cutting the swingarm spindle off, I got a box of 1mm carborundum cutting discs for stainless steel from Drake tools the other day if you want one sending over, I had to do that on mine last year. 1mm you can just get away with, without doing too much damage, might need the two end caps mind.
i was determined so try and get this bloody thing out so i went back down in the garage...
It's totally seized on the bushes/collars, definately going to have to hack the swingarm and the spindle etc to get it off, luckily i have 3 spare swingarms!!
I will also need a Relay arm if anyone has one spare!!
Been a Month since i've done any work on the bike and hadnt got any further until This saturday when i popped down to Nevs!!
Over the 7 hours I was there, I managed to eat Bacon Sarny's, drink plenty of Coffee and smoke a few fags oh and spent an hour on his Carb rubber lubing it up!!!
Has anyone heard of the saying, Why have a dog and bark yourself?? well i'll let you work that out from the pictures if you dont know the saying... (sorry Nev, just had to!!)
After a few more Coffees and a couple of fags, a little persuation to the good man Nev, armed with a drill, snips, screwdrivers, hammers, cutting tools, and wire wheels, he took to my dep tail pipe and made it about 4" shorter whilst i sat and watched from the comfy chair in his workshop!!!
I thought it was wrong of him not to Buff it up for me aswell!!! - Only Joking Nev, I suppose I've gotta do some work myself!!
I went in the garage the other night and decided to strip the barrel and head to see what lurks beneath and i was quite suprised, wasnt to bad considering it was covered in crap and it's still on the standard Bore - it has had a new set of piston rings recently by the looks of it!!
I did notice it had got warm, sometime in it's life as theres some blue shiny scorch marks on the crank weights - Only 2 though, theres no play in the conrod so i may get away with only a piston kit!!!
Theres no marks in the Barrel itself either and looks pretty clean, Heres a few pics from the other night..
Heres a pic of my CDI, as i've know the last 3 owners of this bike, all of them have said it's a bloody quick bike, my CDI says 3rm-30 which i was lead to believe was a restricted French CDI unless my maths are wrong, i thought you needed a 3rm-10 or a modified cdi 3rm-00??
I also received my Expanny from Harry today, over the moon!! The last picture is the one from Harry (shiny) and the one that was on the bike when i got it closest to the camera!!
Hope you enjoyed the Read, Pictures and Apologies to NEV for posting the pics of him!! Just had to!!!
Had a few problems with my car which has held me off from doing the bike but all the parts have arrived to fix it so fingers crossed I can get thus done something soon!!
Anyway, managed to borrow a welder last night and get the bottom race out, never done any welding at all in me life!!
Only out a few blobs in the bottome race and it fell out with 1 little tap!!!
So... Frame is now ready to go for powdercoating at long last along with a couple of other bits!!
Will try and update slot more now I'm back properly, last post was in November!!!
Bout bleedin time innit? Btw I got quotes back from both Revills and First Choice for doing all the powdercoating, £345 at Revills, and First choice came back at £290. That's for 2x 3 spoke wheels, Frame & swingarm, fork bottoms, top & bottom yokes, suspension spring, sidestand, radiator & oil bottle brackets, suspension knuckle, engine mount brackets, front water pipe on engine. And you don't want to know the price I got from one place for Hydrodipping it all afterwards.
right guys and girls, i popped into the garage tonight to get a few bits out and every time i go in there, i keep looking at my crank sitting there..
do you guys think i'll get away with a new set of rings and piston or should i go for the full rebuild??
just bear in mind i've got an auto gearbox on me car that needs fixing shortly and the bearings have gone up since last year the bearings were £38 for the pair and are now £50-£60 for the correct ones..
Ive just priced up all my parts for a complete top and bottom rebuild using PJ and it comes to a total of £250 then i need the crank rebuilt and possibly a rebore!!
if i was u i would do the crank then u know its gona be sound for another 30k mile where as if u put in a new piston the crank could fail any time and theirs a new piston and crank need doing if ur lucky
Bike night don't start till May, you should be about there then surely, mind you Sean (Torquay) from in here, came round tonight with his DTX and was on about a bit of a bimble soon when the weather gets better,
That now means I really gotta pull my finger out with this bloody bike!! Will see what I can do!!!
All my stuff will be off to the powdercoaters at the end of this month, that will give me some space and will be able to strip the engine down for the parrafin bath ready for the rebuild!!!
Not yet shauny, been busy trying to sort out my Volvo, that has now gone to another home and a new car has been bought..
I really wanted to get this sorted and up and running by the end of this month but at this rate it's going to be another month..
All the parts will now be ordered next weekend and the barrel is being sent to PJ's he can bore it out and send it back with all the parts, I really want to get this up and running by my birthday.. 11th..
I've got a few days off from the 6th so will be working on it hard then!!
Will try and do some more work before then though..
The SM setup is sitting in my garage waiting to be fitted an i got the forks off nathanH so I'm just waiting on the powder coating and engine bits..
shame you had to cut the swingarm out, i had the same problem. i used mapp gas to heat the spindle up, then `shock and unlock' (basically a halfords version of liquid nitrogen) sprayed all around, which quickly cools the expanded spindle, it contracts the breaks away from the seized bushings. quick smack with a lump hammer and lack of mechanical sympathy and jobs a good'un ;)
Well not much of an update, was going to hopefully have this up and running by this tuesday!!
unfortunately this is not the case now as we have got another house and we get the keys on thursday!!!
I will be prepping the swingarm and frame myself so i can get this up and running and in the winter months, they will be both going to the coaters..
So, i've only got the crank bearings and the headstock bearings arrived!!
This is one looooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnggg project..
I've now got a week off and have to pack and move, i will be stripping down the engine and prepping it for the main parts then the crank will be off for a rebuild locally and the possible rebore.. will update hopefully mid week with a few more pictures!!
spent an hour in the garage last night stripping the swingarm and frame ready for coating..
There was a little bit of rust on the swingarm so sanded back and applied some Kurust to the little bits just to make sure..
Im doing the prep and paintwork myself to save a bit of cash as were moving this week aswell...
today, i primed the frame and gave it a good layer of paint, let it sit on the sun for a few hours then another top coat of paint - came out pretty good i think!!
Anyway, just to give you guys an idea of the chosen colour scheme (only decided at 11am this morning), i thought i would apply a small amount of paint to a spare swingarm so you could get a rough idea..
I will also be spraying the 2T bottle cradle and the Radiator Bracket in BMW Bright Red.. I will be looking for some stickers to go on the swingarm aswell at somepoint..
So, this project is now alive again, i wont be in the garage tomorrow unfortunately as we've now got to look at carpets..
I've managed to get the Swingarm bearings, busshes etc from DeeTeeMX, unfortunately he doesnt have any Carb mixture screw so i'm now on the hunt for these and i may need another Radiator, mine looks all chewed up so if anyone has one laying around then feel free to give me a shout!!!

thought it wouldnt take you that long to reply Nevwin!!!
yep, it's had 2 coats of Primer - both were Hi-build primer, waited till the first primer was tacky and then applied the 2nd coat, let that bake for a few hours then used the silver as another primer, very fine grade wet and dry after a few hours just to get rid of any rough spots & running, primed the few spots up, then recoated again with the silver and let that bake.
I've now got to tackle the small area underneath which will take about 2 hours to finish then to apply sh*t loads of laquer (i've got about 5 cans available)
I've also now primed up the swingarm using a mix of hi-build and normal primer - first the hi-build, then over it with the white primer to so i dont miss any spots.. just need to fine wet and dry it then apply the paint.. didnt think the colour scheme would work but fingers crossed it will!!
Right, just a small update, havent had much time to do any work as i have been moving and trying to sort out my broadband.. Anyway, now it's all working, I have managed to start putting the bike back together, i've only got about an hour or 2 this week so, Headsotkc Races, Bearings etc have all been put in and started mocking up the front end..
as you can see, my garage is a mess as i've been using it as a storage area for boxes etc but it's now looking better than that picture!!
I've got to re-adjust the front end correctly but i've now sprayed and laquered the swingarm, fitted the shock, just need to sort out fitting the swingarm, putting the new wiring on etc etc..
Yeah, ive got a Black 2001 X reg parallel in the garage reg from new in the UK, makes no ods like does it. I stuck a 3RM-20 on it and it does spin up free with it on.
Its my chav bike Yellow frame Yellow seat cover with full Rockstar decal kit, I darent get it out in-case anyone sees it like :)
Been quite busy with work, house move and car problems once again but hey, thanks to DeeTeeMx i now have a swingarm pivot bolt and the project has taken off today...
nothing has been done since the beginning of the month..
Heres the stage i'm at now... engine in, swingarm in and got the SM setup on aswell properly now - just need a front wheel spacer as you can see from my earlier picture on July 4th..
anyway heres 2 pictures to show you how i'm getting on...
