Im going to do my top end this weekend and was looking through the process. Looks like ivs got everything i need. I just have a quick question about the bolts which are used to tighten the barrel down. The studs look pretty long, how do u guys torque them down ? Ive looked at some deep sockets an jm worried that they wont fit over the studs. How do u guys do it ?
Whatever you decide to do. Make sure you are using a GENUINE HEAD GASKET!
I can't stress that enough. Otherwise you'll just be wasting your time doing it all over again.
+1 or Athena Head gasket. Don't even consider using anything else.
One way to check the torque if you cant get a torque wrench on it is to test on another bolt and get the feel for how much pressure you will need to apply. Then using a same length spanner tighten to that feel. Remember, if you increase the length of the spanner, it will be alot easier to get pressure on and you could strip threads. Smaller spanners will feel tighter.
Don't forget to lighlty oil with 2 stroke, the piston, piston rings and bore when you put it back together. And the little end bearing.
And don't forget to pack something to block the crank casings up before you start taking off or putting on piston circlips etc etc. Make sure nothing goes down in that crank!
i used some old spanners weld some old 1/2 sockets on the open end of the spanners, so u can put the torque wrench on the end of the spanner in the socket if u get me
