Am liking this immensely, if I was to do anything different I would change those pan head screws for stainless steel allen bolts, but that's just my opinion, looking good that

Thanks Nev. I used that crap for the Mock up lol. Got some stainess steel allen bolts on the way. I would die before I put those pan heads back in lol. My next job now is to jet wash the casings thouroughly to remove any blast media and my powdercoat sanding residue. Will spend a good bit of time on that.

I might be held back though cause my engine needle roller has to come from Japan lol.

It's very interesting.

I would have thought black would have been dangerous. Just because it absorbs so much heat!

Is that going to be a problem do you think?

Ha ha  the black beast lol. I may be wrong but is in not solar heat from the sun that black absorbs as it is absorbing all the light spectrum?. I think actual heat, heat it makes no differance what colour it is if you get me.

Uh. No. Black also radiates heat better. White reflects light heat.

Just that black will absorb more heat. So I just wondered if it would cause any problems.

Thanks again guys. Guess I will have to be guinie pig lol. Its not really hard if you know a good powdercoater. Most of the prep is what a full rebuild would involve anyway. The small needle roller is a pain though cause it is £26 and is on it's way from Japan. Depends how much you trust the people who are doing it. Someone could easily turn cases to scrap if they were rubbish at masking. Where the exspanny meets the cylinder it has been left shot blasted so maybe the knew this would be a problem. I will mask that area and spray with manifold paint. As you can tell I am a big fan of powdercoating. The place I go does all the masking and they do it well. So I just hand a pile of rusted filthy parts and they come back like new. Takes all the ball ache of sanding and painting when you only have a cold damp garage to do your work in. With the plus side that the finish should last through WW3 lol!

Just a small update. Got the call from PJME the crank and the cylynder along with many other goodies are on there way home. Got everything I need now so going to take a day off work to get the thing built. MIGHT even get to fire her that day but that may be optimistic.

Blanked off the warmer pipes.

After stewing the parts of the carb in my aldi ultrasonic till I didn't think they could get any cleaner, a lick of engine enamel was put on, after much masking obviously.

What the hell is this bolt on the rubber manifold inlet. The bolt has some kind of wooly wadding crap on it. Tried undoing it for a bit before it started spinning. I take it is some kind of remnents of some kind of uterly pointless restriction. Can't get my head round it's purpose! Want it gone with the rest of the stuff that has no purpose lol,

Just read that you are considering the Athena kit'

DO NOT BUY IT!

It is not worth the money. I have had one. Many like 'Nordt' have had one. Although he has said it was good he also removed it from his bike. What does that tell you!

They are not worth the money. For the price you pay you could have your topend gas flowed and ported and it will be much better!

yeah good spot at that price ,my bike was originally owned by a scally before i bought it to in a state to, i thought i was never going to get her working again it took about 4 months in all . An i never looked back all the trouble was well worth it

Nicosil plated nev as far as i know still in a nice condition too when i pulled it off i must have put a good 5 or 6000 miles on it riding around

Ha ha. Yeah the Athena idea was thrown out the window when I read how crap it was. You don't have a photo of one of these boost bottles do you that fitted the RE/X

found one to set you on the right path mate but im not sure if the re models is the same shape as iv never had the re but someone on here will know if its different

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/yamaha-dt125r-boost-bottle-from-a-2003-model-/190802630205?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2c6cb9163d

as for the athena i can see where your coming from but i wasnt unimpressed at alll yeah ok theres not much difference in it im pretty sure its only a 30hp kit anyway from what iv read , just a bit more bottom end power an between 3 to 5 mph at the top speed
you maybe could get more speed with some modding but i never bothered.. one thing that i really liked about it was how strong the head gasket is .

So unless you could get one for £150 odd i wouldnt bother thats all there worth in my opinion,

Cheers mate will have a look when I get home. I would buy the kit at the right price. Next winter I would probaly fancy doing a 200 conversion like a member on here did. Will be keeping my eye out for the parts for that. But at the moment I will be perfectly happy just to get the engine running nice at 125.

Just bought that bottle at that price why not. That bolt will be coming out tonight. Luckily the bike has not been worked on much in it's life as the bits that have been touched in places have had the work done by complete and utter clowns. Oil in the cooland bottle, cylinder dowel tightened by a breaker bar ect ect.

Well It's now time to get this engine built! Got all the stuff now. Amazing how much stuff there is, this is everything apart from the gearbox and balancer shaft.

Couldn't get this back in for the life of me. Even chipped my crankcase and samashed the glass on it. Found a cheap alternative though. Only cost me 10p...

All it needs is an engine anf fairings. Still think it will be a couple of weeks though.
