New engine rebuild crank bearing play
Permalink

I have noticed i appear to have a little bit of play in my l/h main bearing which i have replaced? The engine was totally overhauled with every bearing changed and yesterday while trouble shooting some running issues with it i noticed a bit of play if i grab the flywheel. Looks like another strip to see what is going on although i will be miffed if i have a single dodgy bearing. Anyone had anything similar?

Yeah but it was my crank that'd snapped in half, you're better off stripping it back down to see what's wrong.

I have taken the magneto off and there is definately .5mm play (was a bit more hot). I am starting to strip it again to check out the problem. Are cranks themselves prone to wear? I thought it would be minimal due to the bearing but not sure.
I will check the play on the clutch side once i have it apart.

I replaced EVERY engine bearing nd did have a smaller gearbox one that arrived and was not great (stuck a bit when rotating the races) so got a replacement.
Pretty cheesed off as it had a crank rebuild by PJME so if it is knackered then that is another wedge down the pan :(

i rebuilt one the other day and it had play in and never even run the engine

the whole engine was overhualed all seal and bearings not 5ml the thats loads! i wouldnt attempt to run it with that much play

This make you laugh

we had a sr50 in on a 59 plate with fresh rebuild!! but wouldnt start lol turns out some dude had pushed some tin from a bakebean can to pack out the bearing on the crank as it didnt fit which in time it filled down to lots off shavings wich distroyed the engine

but he wasnt botherd as he sold it on before it self- destructed

poor buyer!
