hi after paying all my money to my x and divorce lawyers i am now saving for a dt....but which model i want something to tinker about with .i would like one with a working power valve as the ones i have had were pegged shut . i was thinking of a sm but is it worth the extra money for something that i will change the wheels for any way! also i would want to fit a big bore has any one got any info on the German 180 kit (ie what model does it fit ? x, re or sm ?) and would it be just as good to have it ported and tuned by some one like Stan Stevens thanks in advance

The DTX is the latest models. These come standard with Excel rims. The DTRE ran along side the X . It's almost the same except that it has smaller brakes orange indicators and silver swing arms. and comes fitted with YEIS and a CAT Both the RE and X go from 2004-07 The DTR is the predecessor to the RE. It comes in various model numbers, but its main change is the kick start and the greater power. 1989-2004
Personally I own an RE and prefer them. But these are the hardest to get the most power from. They have the most restrictions. The YPVS on these models retard after a certain RPM.
Hi n welcome Ringo, cant say I;m familiar with a German 180 kit, have heard of a German 150 kit or the Italian Athena 170 kit, by the way, dont be uinder the missaprehension you need to have a later DT just so you can have a working powervalve, I have 2 old school DT's and both have had powervalve servos added to them, so as not to have the powervalve restricted by pinning it open.
Also you'd get far more power and reliability out of having the standard 125 cylinder ported by a two stroke specialist. Cost you about the same as the Athena 170 kit new. I don't rate the Athena kit. Was a bit poo for me.
depending on what year bike and type of CDI that particular bike had, you can usually find its unrestricted CDI, for old school DT's the TZR Belgarda 4dl CDI is usually the one most people go for, if they can find one.
Well how much better is that? Half the price and much better. I don't like the idea of having the barrel bored out too much because of the piston hitting the YPVS. But would love a stage 3 tune.
hell you lot get back faster than when i was in the gixer forum! sorry nev its for a 185 kit its on the tuning section of this site it on the German e bay there's a link...

I could have gone 5mm oversize Wossner piston, but would have had to have pinned the powervalve open, whereas with the 4mm piston I can still have the servo working on it. I'd gladly put my Black and Green bike up against any 170 kitted bike, the next project will make the Black and Green bike look positively slower, ask Coastie hes seen it in the flesh.
With added displacement comes extra strain on the bottom end.
Having it run smooth and better combustion is a much better way to go.
WOuld love to see you DT in the flesh NEV. I've shown loads of people your build on that other forum. And they were most impressed. I was exceptionally impressed as I said to you. Didn't know you had the engine tuned though.
there's a lot to be thinking of.in my yoof you knocked the washer out of the exhaust fitted a dep end can and fitted a k and n air filter pre ypvs modells.the dts that i have had i've not done anything with.the kmx 's i have taken the air box out and fitted a k and n air filter.the second bike the exhaust had been split gutted and re welded and a dep can fitted sounded like a proper dirt bike and changed the gears front and back and as a 200 cc they are good for a gen 80 to 85 mph would love a dt 230 supermoto

Theres a lad in here with a DT 230 Lanza called Toysoldier, have a look at it in his project thread, must say I myself have been toying with the idea of flogging my XT600 and getting one, and I'd have it both SM and Enduro set up too
toysoldier's got one he's working on,look very nice. bet they're quick too. andyDTR's got a dt 200 wr on here too, they pop up on flea bay once in a while
