my 02 dt 125 will not rev past 7k its ok up to that but wont go past 7k , also the 6th gear is pointless as it doesnt pull it just runs out of oooomph, i have an aftermarket pipe , but i have yet to remove the reed switch in the speedo, what exactly does just taking the switch out of the speedo achieve when its still wired up?

thanks.blankstare

i think its like a sensor when the needle passes a certain point on the reed switch it activates the ignition retarding, so removing the switch disables the reed switch. rip it out !! simples lol

Best check your gearing as well. If someone has put silly gearing then your engine won't pull it.

I had an 02 DT and it was poo. Slow as anything. Some models are more restricted than others.

Also what sort of mileage has your bike done? What sort of maintenance has it had? It might just need a real good service. Or rebuild if it's tired.

You say these things but you don't know for sure. It's very unlikely that out if the factory the bike would be so sluggish. Doesn't make sense. Why would all the other models be nippy apart from yours. Check carb make sure it's clean en all.

its not slugish up to about 7k then it just stops reving, infact up to 7k its a nice powerrcurve but it just stops reving at 7k, anyway today im going to put a new plug in and check airfilter and remove the reed switch in the speedo.

Sounds like the powervalve to me then.

Even my RE revs past 7K and these are the most restrictive. My RE won't rev past 10 though.

Does your bike do the powervalve cleaning cycle when you turn it on?

Also take the powervalve cover off. (left hand side of the cylinder) its a small cover with two bolts in.

Is it set up correctly I.e. does the prongs fall inline with the hole?

Try pinning it open then disconnecting the valve. This should give you the reverse effect. No power in the bottom end but after 7K should sing and dance up to red line. Probably after about 6K

That or your speedo could be wrong.

I didnt touch the jetting and the plug chop says it's running spot on mate. It's not always the case. My bike had a cat in it. With such they increase the jets to keep the engine cool. I removed the cat and gutted the pipe. So it cancels out.

NORFE had a full dep system fully derestricted and plenty other mods and he was running standard setup and he said it ran spot on. I'd trust NORFE. He's very knowledgeable.

1st thing to do is get the bike fully standard jets/exhaust

check compression, fuel/oil mix altho the engines low milage it may have blown seals/head gasket or any thing worn piston rings

check ignition timing with strobe light if possible

check servo is running /setup correctly as this can have a dramatic affect on the engines performance and make it a totally different ride

every thing u need to know is in the manual mate

remove the reed switch aswell smile

ok reed switch removed, and rubber inlet thing under seat , head gasket is fine, i took it out and its better more mid range power, ive checked my cdi and its a 3rm-30 is that a heavily restricted one? also im going to check the power valve tomorow.

also my speedo is main part kmh with a green sticker over in mph i suspect this is a french import?

import should be full power? heard about a few imports though that have the powervalve flipped 180 degrees. easiest way of restricting them

You havn't welded over your YEIS. It's a plastic bottle that sits on top of the inlet manifold.
