Well fitted these today! Took longer than expected as when I started I uncovered a lot of stripped screws All sorted now though and very happy with them!

Ordered the Mitaka Piston kit, small end bearing and Yamaha head and base gaskets there yday! Turned out to be more than I expected, so couldn't order a new clutch lever and cable! This is pretty much the cosmetics finished now anyways.... The only other thing I'm considering doing (looks-wise) is re-covering the seat and get "TDR" embroided in red on it!
I'll stick up pics of the engine rebuild when the parts arrive! Gunna totally clean the whole engine while its apart and clean, balance and re-jet the carbs! Possibly gunna get reeds too while the carb is out... That is if I can afford it!
Be worth doing the reeds if you're taking the carb out mate. Go for the carbon fibre ones. Little bit more expensive but better if you later decide you want a pipe for the bike.
+1 on doing the reeds, stripped my carb just to check everything over, bathed it @ dad's work, replaced float needle as it was more bent than nath's cóck!
Whacked in some Hytech carbon reeds too, would reccomend doing, make the throttle response feel a bit crisper, other than that it's a placebo effect + peace of mind that you've got new reeds fitted and that yours aren't shagged! Even though my stock ones were mint.

Yeah there's a deal on ebay.de - if you buy a TwinAir filter you get Dierich Carbon reeds with it for 5er! So I reckon I'll be gettin that if the money allows before I do the build! Really need to sort out the clutch cable as well tho cuz its been frayed since I got the bike and its gettin harder and harder to pull the clutch! When its real cold out, its near impossible to get the lever in so keep crashing gear changes!
I'm gunna wait til after I run-in the piston to gut the expanny and put the filter in! Should I still just go with a 240 main jet after doing all this yeah!?

Cheers for the advice bud! I won't actually be doing this myself.... My Dad is gunna do it with me! mainly for the reason that its my only mode of transport and if I mess anything up, then I am off the road! I'm looking into buying a real cheap non runner atm and fully rebuilding that myself to get me used to the ins & outs because I am quite the noob when it comes to engines!
make sure the piston ring end gap is correct and everything turns smoothly, its mostly just bolting bits together, all fairly straight forward once you've done it a few times
Yeah, well my Dad used to be a bike mechanic in the 80s & 90s so I'll be in good hands doing it! I'll make sure I know everything by the time we're finished! Get a few tins and sit in for the wknd working on the bike!!
Was thinkin of gettin an old run down Aerox for 100euro or there abouts and strip the whole thing down and build it back from scratch! Parts are real cheap for the little scooters so that's the reason I was thinking of goin that route! Then sell it on for a bit of profit and get another one until I'm confident enough to start stripping down my everyday ride!!

My Dad was in work for a while so I decided to make a start by taking off fairings, exhaust, hosings etc.
The Exhaust has seen better days (Thank you salted roads).... Gunna give it a clean down and paint later on tonight
Took the plug out also to give it a check

Bit of a jump here... My Dad got home and the proper strip down started! Tank, Airbox, Cylinder & Head off!
The old piston was actually near perfect and the barrel (Sorry couldn't get a decent picture with this phone ) was absolutely immaculate, like new! Was very surprised... 16k miles on the bike now! And it was all extremely well lubricated by the 2t oil, so big thumbs up to the Castrol Actevo oil!
While my Dad took a break I got down to scrubbing up the barrel and head.... with parafin!! haha! Done the job for the little while I was done it!

Head back on! We were up til 2.30 last night, so all thats left to do today is fill up the rad and stick back on the exhaust, tank, airbox and plastics!
To make the weekend better I also collected my new toy for the next few weeks.......
200euro off a local bike shop! It's running but not driving, so I'm gunna have my work cut out for me.... first project I'm going to be doing by myself! I know for a fact that the clutch, flywheel and that can be a nightmare to get off on the scoots, so should be a big learning curve!
All in all I learned pretty much everything I needed to know off my Dad with the rebuild, so I am confident enough to start trying it on these project scoots I'm gunna be buying over the next while!

Let us know if you need any Speedight bits, Istill have a few bits left from my lads two he had, also when uploading 2mb + photos from your phone, try making them a bit smaller, It stops the page from being 3 miles wide, awkward to read when on a laptop without a mouse.
looks like a flat top piston came outta there dude was a tht a flat top that went back in?? also u 100% that its still on its 1st bore? if ya got dirty piston slap then its too small for the bore.
if u havnt already get yourself a descent set of verniers n measure the bore but from the bottom of it so u gotta remove it again, theres normally a slight lip on the top of the bore wer the rings dont got to the very top.

Yeah a flat top Mitaka piston went back into it, and I'm 100% certain that it's still on its first bore, I know the person who had it and crashed it before me and they didn't look after it very well, so nothing was done to the bike what so ever before I got my hands on it! Also its a nicasil barrel so fairly expensive to bore it and replate it again. My dad measured the bore before we put it in I'm pretty sure, I'll ask him when he's in from work! I'll try get a video of it so you can hear! The sound has got a bit weaker after I brought it out for a bit of a run today (keeping it under 5k rpm of course ). My mate couldn't hear it when I brought it over to him today.... but I can hear it over the exhaust when stationary! Doesn't seem to rattle when driving!!

Thanks Nev, I'll keep you in mind when I'm fixing it up... As far as I know its the clutch that's the problem but still haven't stripped it yet as I have been sorting out the TDR! Just as a matter of interest what parts ya got for the speedfight??

ite kl ite kl jus make sure u measure below the lip around the top if it has one, being nicosil im not sure how itll look tbh my 4fu barrel has it, but i can get the rebore and plating very cheap ; )
Yeah well no1 over here does barrel replating (and if they claim they do, its not worth the cost ) so I'd have to send it over to somewhere in the UK to get it done and its a load of hassle!
Anywho... Was a lovely day here today so decided to rack up a few miles on the new piston after college with one of my mates! Really isn't fun driving so slow though!! 50km up on it today! Can't wait to have it run in! There's a big bike show on here in two weeks and I'm still gunna be running it in so can't enjoy it properly.... Boooooo!!!!
Looking good, If you were going to get the cylyder re sleaved wrap it up and send it to pjme. Feel for you though putting it back together and it not being right it's gutting when that happens. If I were you I would whip the head of and measure it as bradders says. Really as crap as that idea is you will benefit in the long run mate.
Just seen bradders can get it done cheap get it done mate then enjoy the bike care free all summer! It will always be in your head and you wont get as much enjoyment.
The barrel doesn't need to be replated tho! It was immaculate inside it! Sure it's PJME that sent me the piston kit over.... I know this is a stupid question, but what do I do after I whip off the head and measure it?? Do i need to fork out for another piston kit and all that crap again or what!?? If so that is BOLLOX!!
