Well if it was replating I think the barrel could be plated to match your current piston. A rebore would mean you needed a new piston kit that would be bigger.
I'm not that sure mate. It will no doubt weaken the piston over time and it will crack and brake like mines did. On a brand new piston it would probaly take a long time before that happened so I wouldn't worry to much. Others will no better than me though.
Yeah its strange cuz the sound is gettin progressively softer the more I drive it... I dunno what that could be the sign of? My Dad said there was a measurement of 0.1mm on one of the piston rings and 0.2mm on the other, if that makes any difference?? I really need to start learning more about this stuff! hahaha!! Im awful!!
Not sure why that could be. You can probaly get bigger rings to fit your bore but you would have to measure ect Bradders will know about that. I am still learning at the moment like you. Best to just get stuck in.
piston slaps not good, better to fix it now rather than when the piston shatters and ruins the bottom end too, it will work for a while but like slob said the piston will crack after tapping the bore for so long and eventually shatter

+1 not worth running the risk for a pretty easy fix
Well, other than the rattle, i have to say..... The bike is running absolutely great, and there is a lot more low-down torque!! Leaps off frm the traffic lights, but then I have to change gear in low revs so can't enjoy it! I'm gunna run the piston in as is and then order a head gasket and check the measurement! it will kill me if i have to get another piston and run that in again tho!!!
Piston is now fully run in and rattling louder than ever!!! Ordered a new head gasket today, gunna strip it down again and put back in the old piston seeing as it was in good condition!! I'm fairly fooking pissed off that I'm down 130euro in total and I'm back to square 1!!!! so much other things that badly need to be done on the bike that i could have sorted!!
Give us a shout if you're after any Speedfight bits Skintt, I still have a fair few bits left over from when my lad had his.
Cheers mate! Will keep you in mind! I've still not got it driving yet! Think it might be the rear clutch, so I'm ordering a new clutch, springs and rollers for it! Hopefully that should sort it out! Atm it is pulling very lightly (it gets up to walking speed if standing beside it while fully opening throttle). Once you sit on it though it won't move at all... Can feel it trying to burst off though, kinda jumps underneath ye! Took the clutch bell off and sanded down the inside and done the same on the clutch shoes but no difference! Guess I'll see what the story is when the new clutch arrives!

Well the final bit of tidy up on the TDR before we depart is almost done! Gave it a fork service with new seals, retaining clips, dust covers and oil! While the wheel etc was off I decided that I wanted to finally spray the fork legs black, because the silvery gold colour that was on them didn't suit any other part of the bike! Looks pretty well now I think! Last thing I have to do is stick on some Showa stickers on them and they are done! need to wait til tmz to do that though when the paint is fully dry! Will get a full side pic of it then!
Cheers NEV! I've already had a text about it and its only up an hour! Some guy wanting to meet on thurs! Yeah I bought the tape off of dreamstickers on ebay! They are in four quarter sections for each wheel! They're the cheapy version but they are stuck on there good and solid! Easy as fook to apply! only cost me 6euro delivered to Ireland! Yeah it would look very well on yer project man!
And she's gone! Its like parting with a family dog when you sell a project bike that you've pumped money and time into! Ah well, the ER6 is being prepped for me to collect next week, so onwards and upwards!

Yer man who bought it previously owned a fazer 1000, and he wants to take the TDR on the motorway! I brought it on the motorway once and it managed, but not very well! and I was only on it for about 10mins! I got 50euro short of the asking price so can't argue there! Pics of the er6 with my proud head on it will follow on a new thread! haha!
