Well guys, How's it goin?

I'm currently using an Arai Quantum which has seen better days! I changed the visor for an iridium one and broke one of the side panels in the process, which is now held on with black tape! It is a brilliant helmet and I know its not expensive to get new side panels, but I have been looking at MX lids for wearing on the road. They look cool as ****, but wondering what are they like when your going 70mph!?? Does it nearly tear yer head off when you do a lifesaver at normal road speeds?

This is the one I currently have
arai.jpg

And this is the kinda style I'd be goin for (not in matt black, most likely gloss or grafitti)

Don't look up and you'll fine. On the roads it's absolutely fine.

Motorways and dual carriageways you'll have to use your mirrors.

Pillion at anything over 70 - 80mph, when the driver ducks down, nearly takes you're head off! Been on the back of my Dad's old 750 at 120mph+...... scary ****! Hate not being in control!

BTW I forgot to mention I'll most likely not have the visor on that helmet, Goggles instead! Are they worth the hassle?? I don't have any mirrors so have to do "lifesavers" every so often.... don't want a broken neck!! aww

This is good news.... biggrin Was worried about the welfare of my neck!! Have some goodies ordered for the bike, so once I have some money saved a new helmet is on the cards! Keep the arai as a back-up! Couldn't be throwing that out!

And you are 100% right bradders..... mirrors spoil the curves of a SM/ enduro styled bike!

Yeah I've only ever used my mx helmet and its never caused me any trouble at high speeds, apart from when I forgot to buckle it up and down the dual carriageway it started to come off, some scary stuff ;) lol

being pillion with a visor up is much worse than if your riding yourself, i assume the wind is diverted into your face from the riders helmet! so an mx helmet might not be as bad if your riding?

Haha yeah reef my helmet started to slide up my head before when I was pillion..... very scary sensation! can you imagine it actually came fully off! doh

logikz I think it's worse for the pillion because they are up higher than the rider and get the full whack of the wind! Also as the driver you are expecting the force of the wind because you can tell what speed you are goin! pillion hasn't got a clue cu they are holding on for dear life!! hahaha!!

dohdoh Was the helmet too big for you or is it just the fit of MX helmets?? I'll have to remember to buckle up when I get one... cuz I tend to leave my helmet unbuckled if I'm goin a short distance down the road and know that I'm gunna be taking it off a couple of times!!

Shoei and arai are like Yamaha and Honda or Impreza & Lancer! You have a big following behind each and they think the one they like is the best! I personally prefer Arai as their helmets look better! But i have worn Shoei's as well and they are nice helmets!! It's all about choice! Try them on and see which 1 you prefer! i think the Arai MX one is like 100 more expensive than the shoei one tho!

No it's the right fit, just going that fast that the wind just pushed it up, you nutter, I'd never go anywhere without it being buckled up, even for short periods, its just not worth it

Yeah its dodgy alright but just annoying having to take gloves off, unbuckle and pull the lid off if your making a few stops in a short distance!! Will have to start buckling up!! wink

Yeah it's annoying strapping up, putting the bike gear on but it's all worth it

But good man for saying your gonna start buckling up more, you come off, that helmet will be half as effective as it could be

Actually reef, TOTALLY forgot.... Was out ordering handlebars for the bike there the other day and while I was in the shop I tried on that gloss white shoei helmet.... was amazed at how light it was, lovely fit too! I would actually definitely pick that over the arai version considering the price difference and the extremely similar look, even tho im an arai man!!

Them airoh's are lovely helmets... If only I could afford one!! no
