Aye whats your opinions on using Snell and dot approved £350+ helmets on the road?? I know its illegal but some say the testing is the same, sometimes better than the BSI kitemark testing and that ECER22-05 Sticker?? I've never heard of the police checking your helmet to see if it is road legal??

See was going to get this

But after watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVKRj0hbtsY

..... it isn't road legal, I'm debating weather or not to still get it??? I presumed pretty much all £300+ helmets would have the kitemark logo or at the ECER22 sticker, even being a motocross type helmet but looks like thats not the case.

Anyway, Opinions please??

How will they know your helmet isn't road legal. Most cops don't know about having l plates without a full bike license. So not sure how'd they know to check to see if your helmet is road legal. Surely they'd need to contact the manufacture!

Very good points again, thanks lads

Yeah defiantly cal, and steady eddy, I can see what your saying, for that kind of money I'm going to carry on looking and try finding similar but approved, but you never know, I might get it. especially now that you've said it might be road legal here in the uk. I highly doubt it though as its on ghost bikes.com mate and there's no mentioning of it being a approved road helmet and they seem to mention it with all the other road helmets (including full face lids).but fingers crossed that they forgot to put it in from what you have told me , so yeah letting us know if it actually is legal would be great :) thanks matey

Dont think you would have a problem day to day, the problem would be if Brown stuff hit the fan and the Blood wagon came to pick you up they WILL want to take your helmet with you and then it would come to light , they do that as they can tell from the inside of the lid and the outside where the points of impact are liable to be , then it would be a case of if you had been knocked of and was wanting to claim for damages to your little bonce the good old Insurance man will not want to pay out , surprise surprise !!!!!!!! shock horror who would have thought such a thing ,

Dunno about the L plates mate, last time i got nicked he was like "Where are your L plates sir?" not gunna lie i almost dropped him where he stood, but got the licence out instead! luckily for him he saved it "That exhaust is illegal sir.......... But it sounds nice" hahaha

When I've been pulled and they've said about plates I've always said "sorry? I've got a full car license. I was told you ride anything up to 125cc without L plates?" Then he went and said he'd double check then just came back and said no you still need L plates. I was like oh shît. Yeah I'll just get some then. Thank you! I could have got into some real trouble." Then rode off. Cheeky git! Lmao

Optamistic Cal ??? well maybe , but think you will find VERY factual , the bit about the blood wagon wanting your lid is fact , I know that from my IMC ( Insident Managment Course )  and Marshal training ,

Hmm.

Well let's hope it does not come to that ey eddy?

You reckon you could get away giving them your old helmet.

I still have no idea on how they're suppose to tell. The helmet I bought was an expensive helmet before the reduction. Surely £300 worth of helmet is designed to protect your head baring in mind I could buy one from ebay for £30 Inc P&P!

Thanks lads for your input so far

Some good points, hmm what to do?? I wonder how many people have actually been caught wearing a off road mx helmet, goggles would cover the area where they stick the approved stickers on the outside anway, so its not like there be able to spot it from behind without checking

"Surely £300 worth of helmet is designed to protect your head baring in mind I could buy one from ebay for £30 Inc P&P!" Yeah That's what I thought

I wonder what actually would happen if you was to get caught, i know it's either gonna be points or a fine. but you never know could get away with it. if I make out that I was told that lids with snel and dot approved stickered can be used for road use then they may not do anything other than stopping me from using it on the road.

Hmm, is it worth the potential hassle it could cause...maybe ;) but I'm still havnt made up my mind, going to look around and see if I can find any lids similar to that but allowed for road use, probably best

To be road legal they have to have the EU number on them and ye I would have thought that any helmet of that sort of money should have that on any way and like I say it would only ever come to light in the event of the brown stuff realy hitting the fan in a bad way and lets face it if you are in that cenario it is the leest of your worrys , but I mearly point out a worst case cenario , and explain when it would come to light and how , plod pulling you would never be the problem as long as you have some thing on your head hiding your ugly mush he dont care , its only that insurence man looking for a way out of paying you large amounts of compo that is interested in the slightest
