I bought my dtr 7 months ago, i was aware it needed some work when i bought her. I was made redundant, and as a result of that the bike got put on the back burner. But now with xmas out the way, and i am settled in a new job i have managed to pick up the tools again. my bike was running 2 weeks ago (but had awful piston slap) i had not ridden her since this had started. on Thursday the 21st of feb i started to dismantle the bike and thats where it all begins.
I had allready spoken with norfe about my engine and arranged that it was going to him. you can follow the progress of the complete enginbe rebuild on norfes thread linked below
Get a photo bucket account and embed the images into that bit will make this thread so much better and more enjoyable to read. This way I'm on my iPhone I have to read. Then scroll down. Zoom. Tap photo. Zoom and the picture won't center. It's a real kerfufal
Be nice to watch this build but through the thread with embedded photos.
so due to mothers day and the cold weather i have been forced to slow down todays work.
i managed to clean the pegs, mounts, chain roller mounts and caliper guard, then primed and spreyed them gloss black, also managed to clean the top yoke and behind/around ignition.
i also spent some time cleaning the loom so i ot some pics of before is started
and after 2 hours of cleaning and some slef amalgamating tape.....
also a quick question i have removed the side stand switch from the loom, without earthing any of the wires will that act as the switch on or off?
so took the day off, fitted all new bearings, bushes and seals, fitted swing arm and rear suspension. Also found time to hang the harness from the frame. recleaned the top yoke and started to clean the bottom yoke ready for refiting tomorrow. heres my current progress.......
also took a quick look the air box, am gonna start preparing for painting and i notace this, ajsutton list it as a "pipe Drain" any ideas of how to cheeply replace this or is there an alternative to the £5 fir the silly part not including p&p?
managed to fir the headstock and yokes today, put all the bits away now till my shiny engine returns from norfe, only the carb to keep me busy till then lol
haha me house was only built last year, i am building it on the table the other side of the room, i use that wall as a clean back ground for photos. gotta clean and paint the airbox too whilst i wait for the engine to return.......
I love going through these full build threads, but the make me feel sh1te cuz I haven't the skills nor the funds to do anything like this!! Top work mate!!

Lol. Neither have I. Just work and save the pennies mate. I bought all my bits over months and just worked it out as i went along. I didnt have a clue how to do it yet here i am.
just seached on ebay for the size i wanted and order that in in 10/20/30 packs.
for just your panels, might be worth visiting halfords and buying them from there, may cost u 5/6 quid more but u can take your bolts in and compare them to the new ones u are buying ensuring u get the right size, length etc
