Was looking for the site to see if my 3bn exhaust needed cutting open and gutting to derestict! Seen it had closed an was gutted, the amount of people who used that to derestrict dts haha
No 3BN exhaust don't need gutting just the spot welded tube removing from the manifold but its rare to find one with it still in these days................. Site should be back up now or soon.
As far as the bike goes, snapped a bolt in the top radiator mount trying to loosen it after I had cross threaded it......... Nightmare its going to need drilling out and the thread re tapping.
Just lucky its an old DTR with good build quality and not a late 90,s early 00,s one as every bolt in the backend would be rusted solid and snapped and the backend of the frame and subframe would be rotten..............
Snapped bolt is out and rethreaded, 10,000 drill bits later stainless bolts are tough......... ! Bike is all done now virtually the radiator is on and the exhaust is on. Just needs the brakes bleeding and I still need to lacquer the tank so I can finally get it on with the seat and new panels.
Tanks all done re lacquered and like new again, go in this morning and its fell from the hangers. Now has a small dent and scratches...... sods law. Anyway its now bare metaled to start again from scratch. Need to get some red vinyl aswell now to remake the decals cause you cant buy them anymore............ Gutted its like the f*****g never ending story this thing.
Oh and ebay seller "imighthavewhatyourlookingfor" has sent me the wrong mirrors for the thing twice now also. What a waste of time. Rant over lol.............
Yeah, if it wasn't for the tank it would be mot,d now probably. I should have just polished it with some cutting compound and stuck it on but when everything else is mint. Oh well now the tank will match the rest of the bike...............
Re painted the tank for this tonight just the primer and White basecoat after finally tracking down a set of new tank decals they are from a Black/Green bike but I have the Red vinyl and can now copy them and finally get the old girl finished, I cant wait to see it with the tank seat and new panels fitted after all the time ive had it. Oh and I fitted some brand new rear brake hose clips and screws as the original were slightly damaged.
Nah Cal, looks exactly the same as the last pic save for the mirrors and handguards and a few little ods n ends. Ile take some when I get the tank seat n rack etc on and its all done n dusted.
3rd time lucky for the tank, poor old thing keeps getting put to the back of the list.... Might get it up and running this week now. It just needs a quick 2000 wet n dry off and a good polish back up. There is whats left of a small fly in the lacquer under the Yamaha logo if your wondering why its there.
Anyone ever had a bad reed valve ? I spent 3 hours trying to get this thing started tonight, had 3 different carbs on and off stripped and in bits and all back on and off again and again............... It had one little attempt to fire and that was it. Also had 2 brand new plugs all gapped properly with a big fat blue spark and still nothing. Plugs dry as a bone not a meg of fuel getting through with carbs that cleaned out you could eat your dinner off them. After another cup of tea and contemplating smashing f**k out of it with a big hammer I decided to swap the reed valve and it started with 3 kicks soon as the float bowl was full. Cant see what the problem is with the old reed valve looks fine, strange............. they test your patience sometimes.
Anyway its all finished now save for a leaking fuel tap " another thing to f*****g sort out " oh and the rack to fit along with all the new panels and it can finally go for its mot.
Not quite finished, sticky clutch and nackered waterpump seal so the clutch casing is of the clutch is changed. Waiting for the new seal and might finally be finished, if its not one thing its another just money money and more money more oil more coolant more time.
