Not saying yours should be in the same groove Fused, but mines in the 4th from top, for more mid range grunt. as for the air screw I'm at 1 1/4 turns out.

Mine only has 3 grooves as it comes from the RE but I will move it up tomorrow, and the air screw I can't turn out anymore then half a turn out. I just went out and sprayed wd40 all over the carb and inlet to double check for air leaks, but nothing.

I'll put money on then mate, that mixture screw is your problem, take it to a garage see if they'll get it out, new ones are 14 quid.

It should be turned all the way in, then back out 1 1/4 turns, Throttle screw(flower) should be about 2 turns out, choke on, then start it let it warm up couple of minutes then off choke see what it idles like, should be around 13-1400 try that, oh aye make sure plugs a good un, new would be better.

11mm-13mm your there Fused, like you say it's much smaller in the manual, but from what I've read opening them a tad more is a bit of a mod for them. you can't open them much more than you are as you'll not fit them into the engine without catching the stoppers

New plug fitted, I will give your suggestion a go Nev.

But first does anyone know what the reed stopper plate gap should be? I've fitted the CF petals onto the block, (with thread lock) but I figured that I should prob check that the gaps are right while i'm at it. The manual says 6.8mm but that seems like a tiny gap? I know there are two different float heights (16-17mm and 21-22mm) from two different manuals, so I thought it might be the same with this. Anyone know? Or have a reed block sitting about they could quickly measure for me?

Right now mine are at 13mm..

Thanks

Well I put it all back together, new gasket, new jubilee clips, new reeds, all setting put back to standard, kick start and nearly started... then flooded! So something has changed...

I have removed the plug so it can dry out a bit while I am in the bath, but then I have to do some running about, so fingers crossed I will be able to get her started!

Any ideas/suggestions?

Getting a good regular spark? if not, sometimes taking off the spark plug cap and trimming 10mm off the HT lead can help, also screwing the throttle screw (flower) in half a turn can give you more revs to start it, but you may have to play about with it once it does start as the revs may be much too high.

Not sure as too why your main circuit is rich but the pilot circuit is lean you need atleast a 25 pilot so you are able to bring the air screw out to about 1 1/4 turns out.

I don't know why, but she lost her spark, then found it again just as quick! Not had much of a chance to get out and test yet, but it did seem a bit better. I'm booked in for mot at 2pm so I will have a word about the probs then, hopefully he will point out a very simple and easy to fix problem! haha

@1DOWN5UP I'm pretty sure I have a 25 pilot jet in there already.

Its an RE carb isnt it? Unless you changed it yourself it will be 17.5 and that would explain why it wont run right with the air screw out more than a 1/4 of a turn

I think the problems could be down to the throttle needle, as it looks like it has been flattened slightly at the tip, I ordered a new one in at local dealership, which arrived today, but this one is 5J25, the old one (RE) is 5J40. Now my question is this, when installing this set I will be putting everything back to standard and going from there. Now I have the correct 5J25 needle for my year (98), should I also change to the standard 240 main jet to match, instead of the 210 that went with the 5J40 ?

I'm thinking I should be going 240, but if anyone could confirm, that would be great and could save me a load of time and trouble!

Thanks

WTF! Fitted the new needle kit, put everything back to standard, and its the same as before. So lifted the needle clip to lean it out and again, better, but still rich and starts cutting out anytime between 7-8k rpm. And idle to quarter throttle it still appears to be lean, as if I screw the air screw any more then half a turn out it just bogs!
Now as much as I love my bike, im really starting to get to the end of my wick with it, 2 years and over 2 grand later, it is still not running how it should!!

Anyone got any ideas?
