I was wondering whether or not you guys know any decent two stroke tuning specialists that I can send my barrel off to to have it mildly tuneD.
What do people reccomend? Who gets the best results? Other than stan stephens and mick abbey who else is there. Out of the two i've mentioned who is the best to go for.
Shame cause you're quite local. I might gove stan a ring tomorrow and see whats up. Otherwise mick abbey. I really want a reccomendation off somebody that has used them.
If you want your cylinder ported you're looking at £130 for the cylinder + £30 for the head then about a tenner postage back.
You'll want to send your cylinder, Powervalve, piston and head off to his address along with your contact details and he'll give you a ring and enquire what it is that you want out of the bike. Only thing is he doesn't have a card machine. So you'll either be paying by cheque or cash.

yet when i spoke to him he said not to bother doing it really...as the ignition system is the main cause of the restriction you could do the engine work but ignition will always be a restriction unless u have some ignition mods to suit....still makes it run smoother and feel more responsive like...he was either to busy and dint wanna do it or just been honest lol
be best off just blue printing the motor getting it to proper factory design spen, the cases inside the engine are massivly mismatched all over , gaskets overlapping joints and all sorts
my mate races superbikes and all hes done is had the engine blu printed and took the squash waser off the spark plug and its gained him about 8bhp...massiv mode for power to work ratio
Yeah he did say that NORFE. He said that it would only be worth doing if you replace the ignition system. But bigger ports are going to give you more power. Gas flowing the system will what give you faster throttle response more top end. You CAN buy aftermarket cdi's for the dt. Once you that all thag engine tuning work will come together. Thank you for your input NORFE. It nasically confirms my theories. Don't expect rip roaring power.
blu printing is the term used to discribe going over the engine from top to bottom getting it to the exact spec and design as the guys intended, when stuff is mass produced its not fine tuned, the inside of most mass produced motors are just rough cast and that way because it takes time to do it all proply, it runs but not as good as it could do...most tuners start with blue printing the engine, then it is totally std and the right starting place to build on....it is a big job with all the design perameters needed (blue prints)
Blueprinting simply means planning and selecting all of the parts for an engine so they are matched to each other, resulting in a well-running engine. For example, the compression ratio, cylinder head(s), intake, carburetor are all selected so one component does not decrease the the efficiency/performance of any other component. A carburetor which flows too little air sitting on top an engine designed for mid- to high RPM range would starve the engine, resulting in a decrease of power.
Balancing the rotating parts of an engine (pistons, crank, flywheel, harmonic balancer, etc.) can (and should) be an element of blueprinting an engine, but in itself is not blueprinting an engine.
ermm no engine comes out of the factory at its full potential, they just nok em out fast and reliable really, every engine can be over hauled to perform better
most mx engines are in a finer state when they leave the factory but they are race bikes and are made to perform better so a higher standard of end product is required, if u look at the ports and case matches inside a racing 2 stroke ports are smooth and seam free, were as less powerfull road going engine seem to be rough compared
Yz 125 transplant... Has anyone on here done one yet? There is someone near me selling a road going dt125re with a yz lump Would love to get my dt tuned but I've been told to leave it be as reliability will suffer
Be much more reliable than a tuned yz mate. Be more reliable than bolting on that crap 170cc Athena kit. Not worries about reliability. The DT is an absolute sound engine. It'll handle the porting and gas flow. It'll relieve some of the stress on the crank if it runs better. Once its running better I can remove some weight off the flywheel also relieving stress off the crank.
Be having the bottom end rebuilt anyway. Not bothered about reliability. Its just a toy.
