Possible Air Leak
Permalink

Whilst out on my bike the other night my bike started to idle very high, It went from 1200rpm to just over 3000rpm. It is fine when the bike is first started but once it warms up the revs rise and it starts ticking over a just over 3000rpm again. My first thought was left had crank seal had failed and was sucking in air but I,ve just had it replaced and its still doing it. I have checked the carb intake manifold and tightened all the clamps up but still no joy. I have checked the exhaust for leaks even though its brand new and thats fine as well. What else Could it be as I,m pretty stumped thanksconfuseconfuse

Buy yourself some wd40.

Get the problem again. And start spraying until it stops.

Poor idling can be many things. Not just air leak dude. Weak spark due to faulty spark plug. Damaged ht lead. Ignition coil.

Spray wd near the fly wheel.

Got the same problem with mine over the last week or so rides fine like, but the idleing is ****ed and will idle to 4k+ sometimes, either air leak or crank seal has gone but i don't really care as i'm over hauling my engine this month. All i've done over the past month is thrash it to the max anyway, too many burn outs and i've gone through a bottle of 2 stroke nearly every week so that says it all lolol. Just waiting for this new barrel to get back from a rebore then i'll have a fresh spare top end and i'll check over the bottom end, need to replace a gear selector aswell as it jumps in to neutral occasionally. Can't complain though, the thing's only had a new piston since ownership.

my bike had this the otherday couldnt figure it out either, knew it was an airleak looked at carb/ intake couldnt find anything, completly overlooked the fat rip in the inlet manifold until about
an hour ago
wrapped it in self amalgamating rubber and its sorted now, mind you only a temp fix.

I've been out for another look and cannot see any damage what so ever. I rebuilt the top end 3000 miles ago and its been fine since so could I rule out a base/head gasket leaking.

Where do i need to spray wd40 plz help i think my crank seals gone?

I sprayed it at the back of the stator plate and the revs dropped back down to normal but then after 30secs it started reving up and ticking over at 3000rpm then I sprayed behind the the stator again and the revs would drop back down again. You should also grab the flywheel and see if theres any movement in the main bearings.

I sprayed WD40 behind the stator and it confirmed that the left hand side crank seal had gone again, it only lasted two days and there is quite a bit of play in the main bearings as well now so its rebuild time. I can't really complain though as its done 26000 miles and for 22000 of those miles I've thrashed it every time I've taken it out.
