right im sourcing parts to build a road legal dtr 125 supermoto starting off ive just managed to get a gilera sc 125 engine same as dtr i believe apart from carb ??? as they have diff pipes etc that go to the head so i came to the conclusion if there using dt stuff on the gilera why why wont the wheels fit ? should be same offset etc and hopefully spindle size etc if not the il take the bearings out etc n spindle n have some made to adapt them well im gonna give it ago either way any input if any1 has tryed to do it or hs before it will be appreiated but i gta find a frame first lol
ive just sold my yzf 450 in my dp was half temped to supa moto that but decided to sell due to too much upkeep onit having to change the shims every 10 hours use started to do my nut in no isue with a lathe as i have a friend with 1 in the shed yes ino they are but i want to build it up frame upwards from scratch like
Hehe nah kidding Calcium, but compared to a DT they're crap for reliability, even Norfe has said this. You'll maybe get 80-100 hours on a piston, if it's geared and setup correctly for the road.
i'm on lookout for some cagiva mito wheels...gonna see how much works needs doing to get to fit.. i know gonna need spacers for rear sprocket and brake -new mount for front brake..hopefully following someone elses lead on it :p
You'll need to make sure that if you are using DTR forks, that the bearings on the Cagiva wheels fit the DTR spindles, 20mm rear DTR wheel/swingarm 15mm front DTR wheel/forks.
i will be using dtr forks..once i find some cheap ones- i shall get on it -if bearings dont fit then i suppose shouldnt be too hard to get correct ones? Cal you've done the brake mod so will be coming your way for advice.
what other wheels you reckon? not keen on spoked wheels..was thinking mito as there are plenty about- and i really dont want the bike off the road this spring/summer too long- fitting in around work and family life will be pretty tight.
I personally really like spoked wheels if they're all nice and stainless.
I understand what you're saying though and the Caggy wheels do seem an easy mod that wouldn't take much time off your hands, few little mods at the engineers then whack them on with spacers, job jobbed!
I know what you mean about having your baby off the road, mine's been in the garage for the past 3 months :(
I do like those Gilera wheels that one of the Porto lads used, but then again think about cleaning...how easy would it be to clean those Caggy wheels?! Haha! I'll keep a look out for anything that might suite you matey.
The only wheels you can get that go straight on other than DTX mild steel spoked are the TDR Italia stainless spoked wheels, as are on my Black /Green bike, and it has to be the 93 (3SH) wheels as the spindle size goes to 12mm on the front on all other TDR and TZR wheels whether 3 spoked or multi spoked, I'm having trouble getting bearings for the Hybrid as I can find a bearing I/D of 15mm but the O/D is too big for the wheel, hence having the wheel milled out to take the bearing.
