Hey guys,

So i bit the bullet and bought ToySoldier's bike+ his SM set up for £950 biggrin

I have about £4-500 to restore it. It's the same year as my DTR so i think i'm just going to go for as original as i can get

This is how it was when i bought it from ToySoldier, I have some shiny new part's on the way and will begin stripping it to spray the frame this week

Don't want to spend more thank a few weeks on this, any idea's welcome

Put the wheels on my DTR for now as i use it to commute, i guess this is what i want the project bike to finish up like as well biggrin

Project is on hold for a while, Easter weekend meant nothing turned up. Also A wasp's nest decided to appear in the shed i was going to use as storage :P

Will crack on soon as the paint turns, managed to source a brand new left side rad and rear right hand panel happy days

The DT and GasGas 300 yesterday about to go and get muddy biggrin as nice as the SM set up was, I like getting muddy on a Sunday too much.

Need to get this project finished so i don't have to bother switching, just switch bike smile

Nearly £400 gone already and i haven't even touched the engine hmm Went a bit overboard

.New hpires rear fender

.New stickers hpires

.Oem left tank pank

.Oem rear right side panel

.Oem rear left side sticker

.DTX forks(cheaper to buy than rebuild the leaky ones i have)

.DTR forks(not 100% why i bought these apart from they were good nick and cheapish)

.Ignition

.Fuel tap

.Airbox

.Clocks

.Good condition original headlight surround

.Various oem gaskets

.Rear frame grabrail

.Rear rack

.Dep end can

Still need a Front Fender possibly/ tail tidy + a rebore.

Probably finish up around £600 after i give the engine a service, bringing my total spend to somewhere around £1550.

No room for profit there, but i will have myself a really nice commuter biggrin

Just waiting on a few more parts to turn up then i will start snapping pic's and stripping it

Started stripping and degreasing today, few nasty surprises bleh The rear frame is bent and missing a mount cry

Clutch arm is leaking oil, also the spring around it has had it's mount broken off

Wiring loom is a bit mish mash but all there and working

After trying hammerite satin black spray, plastikote gloss black, and black hammerite paint(not sure of exact colour as tin is old) i think i'm going to paint it seemed to give the best finish

Not sure what to do about this frame though furious definitely didn't expect it to be bent and broken

Don't worry about the clutch retaining spring. That's an unnecessary extra. My brand spanking new (rebuilt) £500 4dl engine doesn't have that.

To be honest Victor that bike has seen its fair share of battle wounds. I'm sure you're clued up about Toy's accident. Plus the old flip from wheelies here and there. Don't be too disheartened. My beloved DTRE is in a similar state. Where it was nicked the frame and rear is twisted and snapped. To tell you the truth you'l struggle to find a dt that's perfectly straight. One slight fall and the frame twists and bends here and there. It's just the nature of them.

So long as you get it back to good then it's perfect for having as your dirt bike. Have the other one as your sm beast and toys as a bike that can take some abuse.

Finished degreasing and removing rust today, got on with painting. Didn't bother doing the part where the tank sit's as it's fine and will give me a comparison when the paint dry's

Did two coats 6 hours apart(seemed pretty dry), Also had a go at heating up the frame and bending it back

It's a little better but far from straight. I Think i will be able to sort it with my uncle's clamps and some wood when i can get the bike over there

Sprayed the headlight mount because i had already put the brushes in spirit and the paint away lol

No more rust smile next step clean everything before it goes it back on and tape up the loom

Like Toy said earlier, personally, I think this should be your dirt bike one, and the one you have the SM mint one.

You want a bike you aren't bothered about throwing down the track / forest. Seen a few bike videos of them getting written off hitting a tree on a trail.

Personally it doesn't look that bad to me, as for the loom I'm sure nothing a soldiering iron couldn't fix. My loom was wrecked, fixed it up with a soldiering iron and insulated it up, good to go.

To be honest, if you took the panels off of your DT, you'd probably see bending or slight bending at the rear as the subframe isn't apart like a MX bike, so when the DT's get flipped the whole backend bends. hmm

I bet you it isn't my other one is in really good condition. It will have to be my off roader.

Just suck's as i have already bought panels. Really hope apart from that clutch arm seal nothing is wrong with the bottom end

If anybody has a frame with no numbers they could cut that mount off of for me, a few inches before where mine is snapped it would be much appreciated(£)

I know it looks like i have missed the underside pic 2 but it's just reflection

Still need a rear light so suggestion's please, may start putting it back together Sunday if the rest of my stuff comes tomorrow

Also need a seat if anyone has a GOOD condition one

P.s Luke i have never been worried about throwing my bike around, i bought a spare set of panels and tank

Because if it doesn't look perfect i'd consider it a waste of money of would be more happy with a second hand one

Lol at the frame! Jus cut the other side off to match. I cut the rear end off mine for a clean look, along with a few mounting points. That dt is a true veteran of battle. should have medals pinned to it haha
