So I have got myself another project I know it isn't a DT but well the engines are the same :) Managed to grab it pretty cheep I think so it should turn out nice. I was going to do it up and sell it but the misses decided she wants to get into biking and the ktm will be hers after she fell in love with my 690 :)
First thing need to get it running. It's got the dellerto carb there instead of the mikuni . Same one as the rs and the mito and I had plenty of problems with them in the past so might give it a miss and try to find a dt carb and put that on. Second thing is the looks. Got a led tail light on the way and a ktm diamond headlight . Going to put a smc front fender on it too. And a 2008 ktm 250 tank arrived today ;) it looks like it might fit with a little play around . And now just need to find some panels and a seat :)
But looks bloody high spec mate :D Is that an ally swinger?
What's the shock like? Is it better than a DT?
Love it mate. Deffo keep us posted.
Looks like a good bike to get into riding on. Nice brakes, wheels, forks and engines.
Mate is the carb on it the 28mm? The later RS's, 2000 onwards, run GASH round slide 28mm carbs and it will benefit much from a Mikuni 28mm flat slide :D Or is it the earlier models with the 34 Flat slide, in which case I'd leave that on there.
it has the round carb. Yes to USD forks, i have not payed attention but he swinger looks aluminium well let me go take some close up pics for your lot hahah, and yes they are ugly as **** but just with the front done they can look decent
Yes mate, loving the look of those other ones you posted up :D
Glad to hear from you again though, you always have these projects on te go . Entertaining :D
Maybe, might be cast Iron. But I reckon you're going to make this a good project. Interesting shock.
Wonder what the engines like.
Yeah those roundslides are gash. They were a restriction to the Aprilias to make them fall inline with EU laws etc, either a VHSA Carb will be nice, or the Dellorto 28mm flat slide.
yea well the misses have never been riding, its bad enough she is getting a 125 2 stroke as a first bike, than slaping flat sides on it might be a bit much for now :D but well who knows i doubt it makes that much of a difference
i cnt get it running on this carb but i will take my mates carb of his mito that i know run , just been sitting so will need a clean up, and than see whats up with it :D once its running than the only thing to do is get some spares like the spindle as somone had hammered that badly so doubt a nut will go on it, it needs a side stand aswell, if i can get my hands on some fatbar mounts that would be nice as i have a spare fatbar sitting around but i think its some chinise one most likely, this standard bars just don't do it for me
Those engines are...tame. Let's be honest, They're a work horse engine. A flat slide won't see MX style snappy response, just better, reliable throttle.
Yeah well keep us posted. I'll be interested to see how this gets on :D
So tried to get it running today wnt start for sht. Got the top end off it looked all fresh not even run ever. Got the flywheel off and guess what. The woodroof key wasn't even there. Slapped one in but had to leave so tomorrow hopefully I will put it all back together and it will start
Yea . But it got me thinking If the guy was an idiot or just missed it as aparantly the top end etc was done by his mate who works at a bike garage. So hmmm is there something much worst going on . Did they remove it on purpose ? Or is it simply that they missed it couldn't figure it out so sold it on. Why was it out in the first place ? It's not like it was snapped. It was completly gone
Those engines are so simple, that worse case scenario you need to buy another one. I have a forged, rebuilt, 4DL engine that will be an exact replacement for that bike for sale. Just use your genny and you're good to go. So worst case scenario you could buy that.
But it won't be. They're just some idiots about these days. Did you find the woodruff key in there? Cause it wouldn't turn the engine over without the woodruff key? Is it leccy or kicker? If it's leccy then it wouldn't turn over. If it's kicker then yes it would, just would have felt quite odd I'd image.
Don't know but I thought the Genny is reversed on those like the DTRE engines.
Anyway, my point still stands. Whatevber the problem, it'll be an easy fix.
yea it is reversed, these are meant to be electrics but it looks like the engine was replaced for an LC2 engine or this is an LC2 with the stinger parts, who knows but it is just a kicker one, it would feel no different, i dont know if you remeber the gray dt i had with the rs125 wheels on it that was running rought etc and it turned out to be snapped key , but in this one the key was not there all together, who knows they did the top end maybe the previous owner snapped it before was going to replace it and than noticed the top is gone so didnt bother at the end? will find out tomorrow i guess, just out of interest what would your engine cost me?
But it's a belgarda engine so the gearing has a 6 speed tzr r gearbox in it. I used it for around 2 k miles. Drove like a granny for the last 1K but she's solid. Obviously the build for that engine is here and well you can trust me.
But I only suggested that as another option what you could do. Get another dt engine.
I would have thought since it woildn't be spinning the fly that it would feel weird to kick over. Guess not then.
na the flywheel was bolted on, its just that without the key in there it wasnt set on timing properly so it was firing when the piston wasnt on the TDC
They sound find to me . But than when I had the cover off when u moved the flywheel up and down it had had a very little play in there. That's why I'm worried. It might be nothing . Maybe it's just when the flywheel had no woodroof. When I bolt up the engine properly than make a video and see how it is
