wont go past 8500 rpm

hi can anyone help me i have a 1989 dtr125 it has a full dep exhaust and has been up jetted by 2 sizes and the power valve is fully open but for sum reason it wont go past 8500 in any gear please could someone help me any help would be very much appreciated

Do all the engine bearing and seals seem ok?

yeah they r all fine had everything replaced about 500 miles ago

Was it running ok before the rebuild?

it was the same as it is now but without the pipe and the bigger jet

What model number have you got on the CDI? It should be either 3db1 or 3rn1 to 9

dnt know mate i will have a look when i get the tank of 2moz. what do the numbers mean?

God knows but some later CDIs have a builtin restriction

hi mate sorry i have not got back sooner i work nights so i sleep most of the day so by the time i get up it is dark. Anyway back 2 the question in hand, i have 2 cdi's the 1 i have on the bike at the mo has 3fw-00 1 5 u on it and the other 1 has 00-one on it.

Will it rev above 8500 in neutral? Does it sound like its bouncing off a limiter? I'd research the CDI a little more if you are possitive the engine is ok. Your local Yam dealer might be able to advise you as well

it goes too 10500 and then its bouncing

If its going about 10K in neutral is should go above 10K in the gears too. Sounds to me like when the engine is under load in gear it can breath so check the air filter and exhaust.


Gearing may have also been changed and is too high, by a previous owner

it has a 14t on the front an a 52 on the back, i will give the fillter a clean 2day.
