What kind of mileage are you guys getting with a full tank? My TDR will fit about £8 worth in at the mo and gives me about 80 miles or 2 days of runs back and to from work with at least half of that at 70+ and the other half pottering round town fighting with white vans (look out for a van round Leeds area with my Diadora boot print in left side body panels!). Is that good? thought i would have got more than that.
Sounds about right. Mine would do about 100 miles (using some of the reserve) then take a tenner to fill up. My Er-6 is actually more fuel efficient would you believe! 649cc 4 stroke does about 160 miles on £12!! and that's bombing about everywhere at 85 and accelerating hard through town...
You do realise 2 stroke engines tend to be more fuel efficient than 4 strokes don't you (this is why they are used for a) small engined machines (chain saws, blowers, lawnmowers, etc) b) why are used for in many fuel efficiency vehicles (does anyone remember the scraphead challenge efficienty challenge?).
My TZR does about 130 miles to the tank (about 12 litres), my NC30 which is only slightly more (it's restricted to 33bhp) does about 90 to the tank and that's using reserve too.
Really? I was under the impression that 2-strokes fire twice as often so rev higher and are less fuel economic. I was lucky to get 50mpg on the 125 2-stroke but the 125 4-strokes advertise values of around 100mpg...
my gy125 4 stroke is getting over 100mpg allways,and thats really kicking its ass all the time (as its so slow).4 strokes are allways more fuel efficent than 2 strokes.
i thought 2 strokes were mainly used in chainsaws e.t.c. cos there lighter,and generally produce double the power of the equivelent 4 stroke engine (a 50cc 4 stroke would struggle power wise to run a chainsaw,but a 50cc 2 stroke would handle it much better).easy to repair...e.t.c.

this makes 2 strokes generally far more powerful, but also, a lot less fuel efficient, also the fuel is used to lubricate the crankshaft in a 2 stroke instead of a dedicated sump as in a 4 stroke, and due to the way ports work, some fuel is lost out of the exhaust before even being burned (although good expansion chambers do combat this)
the reason 2 strokes are used for strimmer etc etc is because they are very lightweight and are very simple to build compared to 4 strokes, they generally dont care much about fuel economy, as lifting a 30-40kg chainsaw would become a bit of a pain :D
So yes, 2 strokes are very powerful, yet very wasteful engines (and i love em!!) generally not amazing for commuters or those worried about the burning hole in their pocket
hi guys i live in ireland and ive got a 03 tdr 125.
for 9 euros i get 130 miles a litre costs 99.9 cent at the mo.
i keep to a cruising speed around 65 mph and when i have to pass i will go up to 80/85 mph depending. its the best bike i have had.i have changed the rear sprocket for a 55t to bring the top end down that would help mpg and power is still realy good
I'm getting approximately 50 miles out of 5 litres of fuel, so approx 45mpg. My DT is fully de-restricted but the servo is not active yet so I ring its fecking neck everywhere to keep it in the power!
My CBR900 does 50 mpg easily!!!! And my Nissan 200sx was doing 16 mpg when it was automatic! So I've converted it to manual so it's a lot better now, at least 25mpg and maybe 35mpg on a good run.
