hi cud use sum help with a couple of problems, first one hav had a while, bike seems to be burning oil, its not using any more than oil or anything but got a lot of oil residue on my dep silencer, the joint between front pipe and silencer and over number plate etc, bin like that since i got bike and want to solve it just wondering if anyone got any ideas? piston rings or crank seal maybe???

secondly not used bike for a couple of weeks but bin out today and it feels like am getting a lot of vibration thurough footpegs at top end of rpm range, it used to vibrate a bit but feels to me as though it is now worse than it used to be, cant be sure but still feels like its bit excessive and not sure what it is causing it. its only apparaent at top end of rev range or when powervalve is been used, not on a servo powervalve is pegged wide open but always has been.

would really appreciate any advice/help/or suggestions

cheers lads

Mine had that sort of effect when it was running badly, can you hear any piston slap it almost sounds like a Ducati dry clutch if so that may be the issue as when i took off my silencer from the expansion chamber there was a black tar sticky residue in the gap where it was and dribbling out of the end of the can after each ride! it might even be the bike running rich!

Put your hand over the flywheel cover and give her a few revs and if it feels rough/vibrating it could be the main bearings bud

yeah has been running a bit rich just while i sorted jetting out ive took expansion chamber off and put hand up under powervalve against piston and it dont feel lose at all, guess am just gonna hav to bite the bullett and whip top end off, ill try that with flywheel casing tomorrow, how big a job are main bearings?? ive got basic tools and so far done everything myself. also what are front forks like to rebuild/service cos there really soft and spongey????

Not too bad mate for dt forks there is literally nothing in them rofl, as for the main bearings yeah it's a big job if you're a novice as you've gotta split the cases whip them out if they're worn then fit new bearings and heat the cases up etc to set them back in.

when the engines cold grab hold of the magnito rotor and try moving it up and down, if theres any play at all when its cold, it will double when the engine heats up and expands in its heat cycle

if the main bearings are shot then the seals wont be long as the crank shaft will ossilate in the worn bearings casuing them to break seal on the shafts

full bottom end strip and rebuild,

check the big end for wear aswell, if the mains are shot, theres a good chance the crank will be worn also

no point putting new mains in and not the big end as you will be stripping it again soon enuf, dig in the pocket and get it all done at same time or it will just cost more and time in the long run smile

Sound advice from NORFE.

I think he's made a thread about bottom end rebuild. Would be well worth your time studying it to be fair. Completely familiarise yourself.
