Right then back on track with the project, got frame, swingarm and 3 spoked wheels back last week, I'll bang some pics up

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Not sure about the 'Grey' powdercoating for the wheels, it did look much darker and more like the Graphite Grey colour I'm after, when looking at the RAL colour coding in the swatch the powdercoaters had. It would be ok as a base if I go down the Hydrodipping road with them as originally planned, but at £200 to get them both Hydrodipped with a carbon weave look, it might be pushing the budget a bit, I may even just spray them a darker metallic Graphite Grey, dunno my minds not made up yet,
The main mission at the minute is to sort out some wheel bearings with a larger internal to fit the 15mm DTR spindle.

Just pulled up a parts list for a TZR125 92 model and its showing the same rear and front wheels as I have here, a 3 bolt disc, and a 4 stud sprocket rear wheel, and a 6 bolt front disc hub.

So it must be that the normal TZR had a 12mm spindle, whereas the Italian Belgarda TZR125 4DL speedo drive has a bore to take a 15mm spindle same as the DTR

Hey Skintt I've just clocked those 3 spoked wheels on your TDR, are they the same as mine? I did think they were TZR wheels at first but due to 12mm internal/spindle size I don't think they are anymore, as the bearings on mine were 12mm internally, and TZR spindles are 15mm not 12mm. If it helps, on the sprocket side there is 4 cush rubbers and 4 sprocket studs, it'll help finding the correct bearings if it is.

Yeah definitely not mine! My rear wheel has 6 stud sprocket and a 6 bolt brake! they do look very similar! I think even the FZR 250s have the same styled wheel just wider! They could look cool if you could get your hands on some! Make it look a bit more chunky!

that is a sexy build Nev, that colour frame looks familiar too? would it be ral 3002? i think thats what mine is. And that engine is nuts! i did notice you hadf those tooth washer's on your barrel. you might wanna look into putting flanged nuts on them instead, thats a primary place ona 2 stroke for air leaks. i have had DT engines leak there before when testing. Just a thought

Really nice :)

Cheers Mart, I have the RAL code as 3020 for that gloss Red btw, also have changed all those washers for flanged nuts, as that pic was just after I'd had the barrel re-lined, and has since had the top end all gas flowed and ported, engines pretty much there now, just waiting on a larger TZR 4DL rubber inlet manifold for the larger carb in the post, and am looking at putting on KTM V-force reed block,as I've heard they fit straight on, Hy-Tech carbon reeds, and a 5mm spacer for raising the reed block from the engine, another mod I've read about, whether it works or not is another thing, but giving it a go anyway. Then that should be about it engine wise.

I don't think them wheels look bad at all nev! If they were a bit darker, like anthracite they would look the mutts! wink  If ye look closely at the wheels on my TDR ye'll notice that they're not black.... They are a dark shade of grey! Did you figure out what the wheels are off? TZR is it? I'd say that engine will have some power when yer finished man! Is it the original 125 cylinder or ye goin with the 170 kit?

Well I've read about doing that mod on a couple of different 2t bike forums now, and they reckon it works, so I'll give it a try, it's just a case of getting an old reed cage and chopping it down, so you end up with just the flange, and using that as a packer, but If it doesn't work, it's only 5 mins to take out again, the 4DL intake rubber manifold came today, fits the 38mm Keihin a treat, so that's another thing sorted, still trying to find a V-Force reed cage for a KTM LC2 engine mind, Moto Tassinari who make the V-Force cage, never made one for the DT125R, but the KTM 125 LC2 96-98 engine was exactly the same as a DTR, so I'll drop them an email tomorrow.

Lol. I can't believe they are the same wheels nev lol. They look amazing. I'd be scared to ride the bike incase I damage the paint.

Luckerly my wheels were a bit scuffed already. Means I don't have to worry about scuffing them myself.

Aye Cal, the previous pics of them look like Nath lads been on the prowl with some lighter fluid. They'll look even better too if I get them hydrodipped carbon weave look that I'm after, but at £200 to get them done, I might put them on the back burner for a while, and concentrate on the more important stuff.

Got the engine in, and the swingarm on, bit of a tata, but after 2 ****ted fingers, it's all bolted in, so it can be done, a TZR engine will go into a DTR frame, but can see me having problems with the air filter right up against the rear shock, I'll know better when I get the spring back from powdercoaters, so I can re-assemble, then put on the bike.
Pretty chuffed with way the Ford Graphite Grey metallic on the engine contrasts against the Red frame, I think I will make the wheels the same colour.

I think you'll struggle with that air filter and the rear shock Nev. Tried fitting one last year to the standard carb and there was zero room avilable to even try and fit it.

Aye Nath lad you're right mate, but the arse end of that 38mm carb with nowt on it, is only millimetres away from the rear shock spring, I may have to put some sort of elbow onto it somehow, to divert it away, if that fails, I'll see about banging a smaller carb on.

Cheers TOWIE n Ralz, I used that Malossi air filter Towie, as it came with the carb, it does 'concertina' in a bit so there's a bit of play between it and the shock, but like I say, it's a case of playing around with different ideas till I find something that works, I might even look at K&N cone filters as that Malossi is pretty big. I'll know better once the shock is back on and can see how much room it leaves me.

Did a bit more on the bike today, all the bits and bobs are back from powdercoating now, so I thought I'd start adding more stuff to the bike. The weathers been bloody awful here, windy as fook and showers every half hour, but slowly starting to get empty parts boxes, main mission this week is to get the engine started I reckon.
Sprayed up the forks last week, am happy with the Red and Graphite Grey metallic, I think I'll definately do the wheels a bit darker and make them Graphite Grey too.

Got recovered seat back from the upholsterer, he's done a top job as usual, I usually buy a cover from Philippe in Portugal, and he fits it, but this time he used his own Red vinyl seat covering, and did the Grey 'YAMAHA' cut out for me, he's even added me a strap, that I never even asked him for, well chuffed.

Took him the old seat, and I got that back, it cost me £50 quid Enny, I usually pay Phillipe £14 plus postage for one of his seat covers, then £20 for the upholsterer bloke to shape the seat, do the Yamaha cut out, then re-fit it, but with this seat, I wanted a more of a Post Box Red vinyl covering, than what Philippe does.

Lol you mean the swing arm socks Shauny? they're there to stop the swingarm rubbing and ripping the bike cover, not banged me knapper as of yet, but have ****ted my fingers a couple of times today mind.
