so today the engine arrived, and norfe has done a great job it looks like new.
didnt get a chance to take a pic, was keen to get it inside the frame, also put the wheels next to the frame too see how it all looks.
Also mocked up how i want my ignition and speedo, taken some measurements, so now can create template for the bracket i will need, heres what i a hoping it will look like.
so............. no real update, spending my lunch time with the engineer working out sizes for the custom rear spindle, then spacer sizes. also still stuck with these stupid bolts in the bottom of the forks.... but sending to the garage to get sorted. will be fitting carb, airbox, rad, oil bottle and cdi this sunday, but no real rush untill the wheels are fitted perfect.
mine will be very simular but i am looking to set the top of the ignition at the same hight as the vapour. it will be at least two weeks untill the bracket is ready as i havent had time to transfer measurments to an actual drawing, but when done i will share the drawings on here. (also provide a cost price to make and contact details for the engineers)
also just some good information to share, my wheels (inc discs, spindles, spacers, tyres, bearings, sprocket) cost me £100 including delivery, its gonna cost me £60 pounds in custom parts to fit them... i spent £20 on a brembo front caliper but not needed so u can get the wheels from a yzf r125 on your dtr for less than 200 quid. might prove alittle cheeper than the excell rims.
Wow thats cheap! I paid £300 for my wheels SECOND HAND!
They almost look as badass as mine. Almost.
You have to remember this mate when fitting it all.
Thst wheel may not be the same width as the dt wheel. You have to determine where the wheel sits in the swimg arm. You need it inline with the front wheel as well as being inline with the front sprocket! This js vital. The front and rear wheel must be inline. Then you have to get the front and rear sprocket in line. It took me a bit of fannying around to do.
You then have to decide how you are going to mount the rear brake?
Yeah, I know exactly what u mean cal, we are creating the real wheel setup in two stages, first we are extending the rear r125 spindle, and then we will mock up the real wheel to sit exactly middle in the swing arm, and then also lining up with the front wheel, then we will measure the gaps to work out the size spacers required. Sprockets are gonna be quite easy as we are gonna creat a custom bracket so I can fit the dtr rear sprocket. (Maybe 520 conversion)
As for the front it's really easy, only need the extending bracket for the brakes. Speedo drive might become an issue but not for this build in using the vapour (maybe a dtx speedo drive would work)
So today spent some time on the bike, got the carb, airbox, components for the speedo, alarm, coolants system and 2t oil system fitted and plumbed in. Then spent afew mins just sticking some plastics on... Almost looks like a dt :)
Yeah just the seat is to change to black, will do after trimming. I really like the black and blue, got the idea from a bike I saw on eBay... I think he did the black blue bike because he had some black spray and wanted to spray something....
so finally.... connected the battery almost sh1t me pants when the alarm went off (well at least i know its working) put the key in the ignition and turned the key, and heard that little whizzing sound from the servo... so heres whats working
brake light n light all 4 indicators and there dash board light horn alarm pv servo ignition my stealth speedo has power all handlebar switches
so now just waiting for the front wheels spacers and yokes with a dt stem pressed in from the engineers, then need to adapt the yzfr125 rear caliper mount to the bike then i can start filling the bike with fluids and try to start her... masybe 2-3 weeks and i am hoping to be heading to the mot station.. fingers crossed
