Thanks wozz I am lucky in the fact there is just one bit I have missed that annoys me on the entire bike. I just wish I painted the front master cylinder with my engine enamel. It just looks a bit dirty but it would mean having to strip it all off and re bleeding the brakes ect which is working like a dream lol. I will get round to it, probaly just not soon but me being me I probaly will do it when the bike is finished.

Scrim I was looking at your bikes and loved the originality of them. They really are probaly the best DTs out there. I started down the original route but with the bike being a 2005 I didn't really see the point if you get me. I am really looking forward to putting it together cause I don't even know myself what it's going to look like finished.

Heres my carb all finished up. Had to use plenty blue gasket stuff cause the big centre gasket was letting in a bit of corrosion. I wen't to Yamaha dealer and he said you couldn't get a new gasket for it wtf lol? so a bit of warm water and it cleaned up ok. Replaced the crappy bolts and used loctite. I think it will be nice to see the premix coming down the clear piping. Then I will definatley know when I am about to run out of juice!

How it looked before....

Cheers I only  used masking tape. Then I sprayed it with engine enamel. Put a 240 jet in aswell and greased the choke plunger and bought a new top gasket. I took plenty pics taking it apart so it was really easy putting it back together.

Just relised you meant cleaning the filth off. If you hav't done already mask everything up prior to cleaning anyway. I just stipped mine right down and used a cheap ultrasonic cleaner you can see in the pic. I wouold be gentle with a tooth brush and a good solvent like white spirit and clean the carb as a complete unit.

Was at the MCN bike show today and picked up some stickers at one of those stalls. Finally found some stickers to finish of the swinger.

Had a bit of a score aswell lol. Paid £2.60 for a spark plug off ebay and four turned up this morning, what a result, rare indeed.

Well my knuckles are grazed and my hands are all cut so there is a nice amount of my own blood in this engine lol! Been really busy on it this week. I got my bearings pressed in at the bike shop cause I dint't want to put the powdercoat in the oven, also I screwed up two bearings using a blow torch and bearings in a freezer/socket hammer ect. £30 for half hour labour. A real eye opener why we do the work our selves!!!

At least I knew they were in perfect though.

Thanks mate. The engine hasn't been as hard as I thought it's just the unknown alot of the time,  you could do it no bother if you got all the stuff so you could have a fresh engine to.

The carb looks mint brand new, i have took to soaking them in alloy wheel cleaner if they are playing up a bit after a strip and clean n blow out wont solve it. It gets in everywhere and desolves any crap in passage ways u cant get out even better than sonic cleaners.

Cheers scrim, the carb was spotless inside cause no scrote had ever tampered with it, rekon it had never been touched since it left the factory.

Been another busy day I will let the pics do the talking.

Really pleased with it, lets just hope it runs lol!

Does anyone know Will I be able to fit the engine as a complete unit or will I have to take the barrel off to get it in?

For the sake of around 30-40 quid Slob, you could do the kickstart conversion on yours mate, that way you're not relying on just having the starter motor, something I found to my cost on the XT600 once, the TZR/DTR Hybrid has one now, and will be doing same on the XT, it's easy enough to do too. rev counter gearing is something else I'd do too, more often than not you need the rev counter more than the speedo, I do anyroad, right hand rev counter clock is easy enough to get hold of too, unless you're going the digital way.

Thanks Nev I have already installed the vapour stealth so rev's are not an issue. The kick start is food for thought. I am lucky where I live at the moment it's a steep hill so when I never had the bike out for a while ect I could get it going. Im moving house next week that doesn't have such a steep hill lol, so I may save some swearing and kicking of the bike when I am late for work lol.

aw not good. iv always wondered y the other water way holes are so small and not like the big one at the back?? u reckon itll be worth opening them up to match the barrel n head? iv got an awesome carbide deburr tool on an air grinder i got would be perfect for the job.

ah jus thought the reason for that is to promote flow direction across the head isnt it lol in through the top at the front, out lower rear of head into reartop of barrel n out lower front then into cases... bam!

Yeah mate, bit of a pissir about the gasket lol. Mianly because I put a wee dab of gasket sealer round my washers to make sure they sealed on the cleaned up powdercoat, glad I found out now though.

Hopefully get to hit the ignition switch tomorrow, can't tell you how happy I will be if it runs good, still got alot of small jobs to do first that seem to be never ending. The amount of time I have put it would probaly amaze me after looking through this thread and the bike its self, but I am happy with it and that's the main thing no matter how long it takes.
